Skinny jeans have been the denim essential for many of us for several years now. Easy to wear, great with flats, perfect for tucking into boots – they filled a gap in our wardrobes we didn’t even realised existed before! But, as with all trends, their reign is dwindling, and a new denim super-power is stepping into the limelight…

The skinny flare is making a comeback!

Blame the seventies look, if you will, but fit ‘n’ flare denim is what this summer is all about. These babies look great over platform sandals, and are the natural neutral to floral chiffons and tassled suedes. Come autumn they’ll look as great over your boots as your skinnies did under them. And they’re a more comfortable fit in many ways – whether you go high-waist or low-rise is really your call!

Which begs the question: are you ready to give up your skinnies?

I’m not keen on the 70s look in the slightest so will be ignoring all the paisley covered/maxi dress/flare pants and the like for the next couple of years I’m sure.

I’ll stick with my pencil skirts!

I don’t think we necessarily need to give up skinnies in order to embrace this look. I never stopped wearing my flared and bootcut jeans when skinnies came in, I just added skinnies to my collection. I love that anything goes now when it comes to jeans, you don’t have to be in one camp or the other.

    yes! yes! yes!

i was so sick of low-waisted skinnies that i refused to wear pants altogether for about a year. i always feel like skinny jeans make me look like a triangle, wide at the top and just going pointy towards my feet. and i have an hourglass figure. i also hate (don’t kill me for this one) the look of boots over jeans, so they really were no use to me… and now i found a pair of flares at h&m that don’t show my butt as soon as i sit down and look great with heels or wedges.. they make my legs look longer and take the pounds off that skinny jeans would add 😉

this wont catch, at least not on the west coast of the states. and, if you have nice shoes, wearing these pants will cover them up, unless you were to tuck them into your boots, where skinny jeans would be more comfortable and no one would be able to tell you were wearing flares to begin with..

I’m a skinnys fan I’m afraid. I hate the cold drafty feeling you get in flares, they remind me too much of school trousers and my old jeans when I was about 12. I don’t care whether they are in fashion or not the skinnys stay on. Plus, I don’t have the best thighs in the world and having it tight around my calves somehow rights that.

Personally, I’d rather be channeling Patti Smith than Britney Spears, but to each their own.

Oh flares, I’ve missed you so! I have no idea how skinny jeans caught on at all ick!

Well, I won’t be replacing my skinnies with these flares, but I have added a pair to my current collection of jeans. They look nice with my white slingbacks and mini-wedges.

Personally, I don’t like either flares or skinny jeans. I hate anything that clings to my legs, especially at the knees like both flares and skinnies do. Give me wide leg jeans any day!

No way I’m giving up my skinnies, but in the end it’s all about your personal style and your body shape – you shouldn’t wear things that are unflattering, just because they are trendy at the moment. I like skinnies, cause they make my butt look awesome and my legs longer and leaner, while flared look is just not for me – I can’t stand something dangling around my ankles and hiding my shoes! To each their own and skinnies for me! 😀

I like it when the top is high waisted and tight fitting, at the knees flares out a lot, and is very long and stiff, worn with chunky heels.
But I prefer straight cut jeans, personally.

No way, no hell do I wear skinnies as a girl with an hourglass silhouette. Give me trouser-style jeans with a bootcut leg or a gently skimming flare from the knee down. Sure, you won’t see my great boots but if I want to showcase my boots, that’s what skirts are for.

I love my skinnies and I’m not really into this flare comback thing. Anyway, I’ll probably get used to them and begin to like them…eventually.

They’re cute. Unfortunately anything flared makes me look short and dumpy though, so I’ll stick to my skinny/straight-leg jeans.

Also I like skinnies because I can just cuff the bottoms and not worry about hemming them properly.
