Fashion Police at the Met Costume Institute Gala 2010

Anne Hathaway Met Costume Institute Ball 2010

The Met Costume Institute Gala is The Fashion Police’s favourite social event of the year, and generally brings out the very best (and the very worst) in our favourite celebrities, with gowns to rival (and often even outshine) The Oscars.

The theme of this year’s event was The American Woman, although many of the celebrity guests seemed to interpret this as “wear something long and sparkly”. Our pick for Best Dressed is Anne Hathaway in this shimmering Valentino gown, which makes her look like a fairy princess. Who wins for you? Take a look at the gallery below to find out!

(P.S. Stay tuned for more Costume Institute images, coming up soon!)

I have to disagree with you here. I think the color (or lack thereof) washes her out and even the sparkly bits don’t save it. Too much dress for her.

    Rock Hyrax

I don’t know if someone’s just done a dodgy photoshop job she looks like she’d be at home on top of a Christmas tree.

I think Anne’s dress looks like a Barbie doll dress from the 1980s!

Sienna Miller is too flat-chested to wear a dress like that. You have to have a very specific cup size to wear a dress slit down the front. If you are small in the chest, the dress hangs unflatteringly, and if you are busty, it looks like your boobs are going to fall out of the dress.

Blake Lively always wears the same kind of dress, short and tight. I know she has nice legs but I think her style is getting boring.

Marion Cotillard looked great! I love dresses with sleeves.

Kate Hudson’s shoes don’t go with her dress and they look like the exact same pair she wore to the Golden Globes.
