Fashion Police at the Met Costume Institute Ball 2010: Rosario Dawson in Giambattista Valli

A welcome splash of lavender amongst all those metallic gowns, Rosario Dawson wore Giambattista Valli to the Met’s Costume Institute Ball last night, and was escorted by the designer himself. Dresses like this one always remind us of toilet paper dolls, or those cakes we used to love as children, which came with a Barbie doll stuck into the centre of them. The bodice is beautiful, though, and we like the way Rosario has kept everything else super-simple, right down to the minimal makeup and pulled-back hair. What do you think?

I’m sorry she looks like one of those toilet roll dolls.

I don’t think it’s very flattering. And if she doesn’t have breast implants, this dress sure makes it look like she does!

Why is she standing so unnaturally? Her hips and stomach are jutting out and her shoulders are slumped backwards!?

P.S. I was looking at first photo only.

I disagree. She looks like she was going to the grocery store and decided to slip on a gown. If she were going to go so outrageous with the dress she should have gone all the way with big cirls and lots of light makeup like barbie.

The bodice doesn’t fit. It’s peculiar; on one hand, it makes her look like she has large breasts that can’t be contained, and on the other hand, the size of the sewn-in cups makes her breasts look tiny and her rib cage look wide.

The dress is quite hideous, I think. But the look would’ve been improved if she’d had loose hair and just a slick of lipstick – and it was a crime to cover those fabulous shoes!

Her breasts look really, really weird in that dress.

I think the dress is kind of strange, it’s kind of a tuxedo-style bustier with a frilly girly bottom? I don’t know if it really goes. And I agree with Lori, it’s strangely unflattering even though I can’t put my finger on why it would be! I don’t think her shoes really match either. I guess I like the dress but it’s not flattering on her!

i don`t know how convinced her to wear that.
the upper part seems to deform her boobs and the lower part is just horrible. the color is bad, the whole concept of the dress is bad.

It would look nicer if the bodice was actually the right cup size for her. The cups are too small – such a shame. And the frilly bottom: not feeling it, really.

I like the shoes, but hate the dress. She has a beautiful body, and this dress seems like it’s trying to change her shape into something she isn’t.

Yeah, the first thing that jumped out at me about this, which I by the way do not like very much, was how tiny the cups are and how far in they are from the sides of the dress, making her torso look like a big rectangle. Like a fembot from Futurama with robo-boob cylinders stuck on the front of them. Like that.

Dear God, what an awful dress. The cups on the bodice look like they’re way too small for her, the velvet bow looks cheap, and the skirt reminds me of wadded-up tissue paper. The lavender color is probably the worst part – it’s very painful on the eyes.

ohh…… e.< wince for fashion. i agree the cups are WAY TOO SMALL! and ive never been one for the toilet paper bottom… and if your going to a gala event hair up is nice but a good updo….. and mascara never hurts… its just a law… you dont go out without mascara….. i mean shes a natural beauty and all but that dress… replace the bottom, up the cup size so her chest doesnt look malformed and take away the caging… its making her ribcage look at least 2ce as large as it is.. poor girl.. shes so pretty naturally…
