Emily Mortimer wears YSL to the Metropolitan Opera’s 125th anniversary

Just after we posted about YSL's sequin jumpsuit, we spotted this picture of Emily Mortimer wearing the dress version to the Metropolitan Opera's 125th anniversary event last night.

It's certainly an improvement on the jumpsuit (mind you, we'd say almost anything is an improvement on a jumpsuit), but something about this just isn't doing it for us. We're not sure if it's the dark colours or the high neck, but it just seems too old for Emily here: what do you think?

It rather looks like she was douced in my favorite shade of nail polish…high gloss, dark blood red with just a hint of gold shimmer flecks in it. Now, I LIKE it…but I think she could reveal a bit more skin around her neck and shoulders. That is where it’s “glossiest” and kind of makes her look like a candy apple.

Agree,I don’t think the material itself is too bad but this dress has way too much of it.
It should be a strapless little dress – little being the operative word here.

Actually, I love that. I agree about the shoulders though – even a boat neck would have been nice.

It seems too old and frumpy for her despite the sequins that try and dress it up.

Maybe with the necklace that’s shown with the jumpsuit? It just needs something else around the neck.

    .

She looks fantastic. I agree with the boat neck comment, though. I don’t think it’s possible to disagree with that. Also, the belt isn’t laying quite right.

I agree this would look much better with the boat neck too.
The length of the dress also makes her look much older since it is one piece.
More skin around the shoulders and more leg would be nice.
