Because it’s Christmas, and it’s red, and it’s nice and simple but still gorgeous… and because I’ve been having me a bit of a Miu Miu moment recently. Bow down to them – they can do no wrong.
Dress of the Day: Rachel Pally Cape Mini Dress
I’m into jersey dresses in a big way right now, and I really love the casual, “just pull me on and hey! You’re good to go” style of this Rachel Pally mini dress. So easy to wear (and easy on the ol’ belly, too, after you’ve been over-indulging at Christmas dinner) and to accessorize – a real “take you anywhere” dress. It’s $176 and is exclusive to ShopBop.
Dress of the Day: Forever 21 Satin Spaghetti Dress
I know this dress isn’t particularly wintery, or even very festive (despite the fact that it’s red), but actually? That’s precisely why I like it. It’s almost December, it’s cold, grey and rainy outside, it’s a long, long way from summer, and yet this dress makes me think of blue skies and hot sun, and I like that. I’m imagining it with tanned skin (not mine, obviously – I’m so pale I’m almost blue) and a nice pair of sandals, on it’s way to some balmy beach bar, where it will sit and drink cocktails in the evening breeze. (Not on its own, you understand. That would be weird. Someone would have to wear it.) Lovely. It’s $29.80 and its from Forever 21.
Dress of the Day: Red Silk Taffeta Bow Dress
As regular readers will have sussed by now, I’m a bit of a sucker for dresses that look like Christmas presents waiting to be unwarpped. This red dress is in a similar style to that Adam & Eve gold bow dress we featured a while back: same big bow to the front, same length, similar “poofy” style. Having a puffball skirt, of course, makes this dress even more poofy than the Adam & Eve one, which means you’ll either look totally fabulous, or you’ll look a bit like an Oompa Loompa. It’s $275 at eDressMe.
Dress of the Day: Pucci Silk Shift
Every time I go onto the Net-a-Porter website, I get that Barenaked Ladies song, ‘If I Had a Million Dollars’ playing in my head. If I had a million dollars, I’m pretty sure I’d be able to spend them all without leaving the house: I’d just hit up Net-a-Porter website and buy up most everything on it. For real. Now, Pucci dresses. I don’t normally go for Pucci dresses. They’re a bit busy for the likes of me (“No!” I hear you cry. “Why, Emilio Pucci, he is normally so toned down! How can you call his dresses ‘busy’, Fashion Police, HOW?), but this one? This one I like. Not enough to spend £925 on it, mind you, but I do like the classic shape (especially the flattering collar and waistline), and if I seen one just like it for… less than a grand, anyway… I could just be tempted.
Sing it with me, folks: “If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)/ I would buy me a Pucci dress of the day…”
Dress of the Day: Biaritz Print Dress from Monsoon
OK, so now that Christmas is out of the way, I’m firmly into “thinking about my wedding” mode, and more specifically, into “thinking about my honeymoon” mode. More specifically still, I’m into, “OMG, what will I wear on my honeymoon” mode, hence the appearance of this rather summery dress on these pages in January. Now, I don’t think I’d be able to pull off a print as loud as this one (and the mis-matched centre brings out my OCD tendencies), but it’s just screaming out “BUY ME AND WEAR ME ON YOUR HONEYMOON! OR, IF NOT, AT LEAST MAKE ME A DRESS OF THE DAY!” Well, at £95, I think I’m going to let Monsoon keep this one, but I can make it a dress of the day, so I have. Now shut it, dress, you’re not coming on holiday with me…
Dress of the Day: Topshop’s Checked Taffeta Dress
Auntie Em! Auntie Em! There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home!
Well, we’re definitely not in Kansas any more, Toto, but hell, why not dress like we are, anyway? I seriously can’t decide whether to love this dress or hate it: every time I start feeling the love I picture myself in plaits and ankle socks and this dress, and the love kinda goes away, you know? So the jury’s still out. Luckily – and here’s a complete and utter shocker for ya, folks – Topshop don’t have it in stock in my size anyway! Well, there’s a turn up for the books…
Alberta Ferretti Textured Wool Dress
I’ve had this dress saved in my favourites for about six weeks now. I’ve no idea why, really: I mean, it’s not like I’m going to suddenly look into my wallet and say “why, here is a spare £510 I didn’t know I had – I will buy my beloved Alberta Ferretti dress with it!” No, I am doomed to only ever just look at this dress. But now it’s here, on my blawg, at least you lot can all look at it too, right?
Tibi Pompeii A-line Dress
If you gave a five year old some crayons and a sheet of paper and asked him to draw you a dress, I’m pretty sure this is the kind of thing he’d come up with. (Hey, Tibi – looks like I just saved you some money on design salaries, no?) The simple, triangular shape, the bright, primary colours of the flowers. Yup, it’s childlike all right. I absolutely love it, though. It makes me smile. It’s £230 from Net-a-Porter.
