Dress of the Year 2009: Vivienne Westwood’s Monroe dress!

Meet your elected Dress of the Year 2009, readers: Vivienne Westwood’s ‘Monroe’ dress!

Unlike our Fashion Crime of the Year poll, this was a close-run thing: the Monroe dress polled 17.6% of the overall vote, just beating Lipsy’s pink mesh prom dress, which came second, with 15.4%.

Full results are under the jump: as you may have noticed, this year we’re reverting back to including a poll with each of our Dress of the Day selections, which will make it easier to choose the nominees for Dress of the Year 2010. As always, please feel free to drop us a comment or email if you’d like to nominate a Dress of the Day: we’re more than happy to receive your suggestions!

Nooo…. I wanted the Lipsy dress to win! This one is too frumpy for me. I am going to go buy the pink mesh lipsy dress right now! Where do I get it from though?

Good call, FP readers! Honestly, I think a little frumpiness can be a good thing. Mainly I’m glad that the winning dress wasn’t red, black, or white; and that it wasn’t one of the tired pinup curvy retro wiggle dresses.

I highly doubt that “pinup curvy retro wiggle” dresses are tired…But everyone is entitled to their own opinion 🙂

I just don’t like this one. I don’t really like that colour and it is a little frumpy for me. I like some cover, but I hate things that come as close to my neck as this dress seems to.

I don’t know how anyone can call this dress frumpy. The high neckline is because of a low back, and the color is so pretty and not something you generally see on dresses.

I don’t know, there’s something about the way the dress is presented that turns me off. Mabie it needs some pressing? Anway, my favorite was the Lipsy prom dress. Too bad that didn’t win!
