This dress has been on our radar for a while now. It’s part of the ASOS Collection range, which is slightly more expensive than the regular ASOS offerings, but you’re just going to have to trust us when we tell you it’s totally worth it. Or, actually, you DON’T have to trust us: you could buy it and see for yourself. But if you’re just not sure, all we can tell you is that your Chief of Police may or may not have succumbed to the lure of a couple of Collection dresses this summer, and while she can’t speak for this particular one, not having tried it, the ones she HAS tried were of a much higher quality than you might expect from a mass-market retailer like ASOS, and definitely worth the extra money.
But we’re not here to talk about those other dresses: we’re here to talk up THIS one, and this one is a purple, floral print midi dress with a Bardot neckline and full skirt. It’s a very retro-inspired kind of look, and if we hadn’t stumbled across it on the ASOS website, we’d probably have assumed it came from a vintage reproduction brand, like Bettie Page or Stop Staring. It just has that kind of look about it, doesn’t it? In fact, we’re sure we’ve seen some Bernie Dexter dresses with this same, Bardot-style neckline, and that neckline was the first thing that drew us to this dress: it’s just a very classic look, and something we don’t see nearly enough of, so it was a refreshing change to find it nestling amongst all of the sheer, bodycon and “mullet” dresses over at ASOS.
The second thing that drew us to this dress? That gorgeous floral print. The colour is wonderfully vibrant, and perfect for this time of year, particularly for the upcoming party season.
