Designer Vs High Street: Heart dresses by Marc Jacobs and Jovonna

One is asymmetrical, and the other has the full compliment of shoulders, but, obvious differences aside, these heart dresses by Marc Jacobs share a lot of similarities too, don’t you think?

The Marc Jacobs dress is past season, and, as such, is currently sold out at Net-a-Porter, where it originally retailed for £2378. The Jovanna dress is a more affordable option at £90, and you can but it at Oli.

Which do you prefer (if you like either of them, that is)?

I think i’ll choose Marc Jacobs one.
    I know it’s very pricey.
But the cut is more elegant than the imposter. : D

Hate the sleeve area on the imposter and the hearts are not as good.

    I choose Marc Jacobs.

I do prefer the €€€one, but at that price, I’d hack the one sleeve off myself.

I prefer the budget one, but I have one-shoulder issues. Also not with that print, ever.

I can’t quite get my head round clothes with one shoulder, so I will choose the cheaper version.

I much prefer the cheap one. It’s a much easier style to wear.

The impostor is so much cuter. Also I hate the whole one shoulder thing.

The budget look. I think the sleeker design is more flattering. And I don’t feel ready for the one-shoulder look.

Leaving aside how much I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate one-shoulder (overdone, clumsy, over-embellishing, tacky); the collar of flattened-y hearts and the pretty scalloped-looking hemline (which looks more intentional FWIW) are much much nicer in my opinion. Also, with the hearts looking more overlaid instead of 3D, the colors seem like a deliberate choice, and a somewhat witty one at that. Also, the shape would mitigate the puffiness that the original has when worn.

The original does have more issues than I thought. It just looks flimsy and statement-y and not done well.
