Style on Trial: Chanel’s ‘Gun Shoes’ – Cruise 2009

Chanel_gun_shoes

Karl Lagerfeld, get your gun! Oh no, wait: you already did, didn’t you? These shoes were part of Chanel’s 2009 Cruise Collection, and were actually designed by Laurence Decade, who was apparently handed an image of a gun by Lagerfeld, with the instruction to turn it into footwear. And he did. The scary bit is that these aren’t just pieces of catwalk art – they will actually be available to buy with the rest of the collection. Our question is, will you buy them, or do you think The Fashion Police should step in and do some handgun control on these babies?

(Personally, all we can say is that we’re looking into having The Fashion Police’s actual handguns made to look like shoes. Any hints, Uncle Karl?)

I love them 🙂 I don’t know how comfortable they’d be to walk in but I heart them regardless!

I can’t help but think that they’d be uncomfortable.
With the heel of the shoe attached so far forward it would put pressure just inside the instep and not the actual heel of the foot.
That would begin to hurt me after about 10 minutes

I think they’re totally tasteless. With a “normal” heel they’d be OK. Blah, but OK. With the novelty heel they’re just…not.

They’re about 2-4 years late, if you ask me.
The “guns as fashion statements” statement went out years ago. I think it’s tacky, clunky, and old.

I think the focused on the heel and they forgot the rest of the shoe… And I agree with cristina…whereas it wouldnt hurt me, i’m a man 🙂

If I was going to see the Threepenny Opera (the opera that “Mack the Knife” came from) here in Austin, Texas (“Keep Austin Weird” is the city’s unofficial motto) these would be the perfect shoes. They’d be a little hard to wear at the gun range, however, being that the ground is all dirt and/or gravel.

I think nobody is open-minded enough.
Personally, I would buy these shoes in half of a heartbeat if I had that kind of money. I think they’re super great! The rest of the shoe is a little blah, but with a heel like that, I don’t care.
So lighten up, it’s just fashion.
    🙂

murray – Ironic that you’re telling other people to “lighten up it’s just fashion” while taking the time to type out a comment calling people closed-minded just for expressing an opinion on something. Maybe you’re the one that should lighten up and learn to deal with the fact that not everyone shares your views 

A fantastic idea, but the execution looks a little half-assed. I’m sure there are more slick ways to incorporate a gun into a stiletto heel, and this isn’t one, I’m afraid. The design of the actual shoe upper could have done with some innovative flair as well, to set off the heel design. Instead, it looks too “normal”.

I think they are hot, but of course I like to knock people dead with my fashion sense. And, I’m a man capable of Gender Fluidity!

The shoes were originally $2200 when they came out. Don’t know if the price has changed since then. And the shoes are chanel- they’re probably one of the most well made shoes in the world so they’ll be more comfortable than any other pair of heels you own.
