Celebrity fashion photos from the Oscars

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Livia Firth in Valentino

And so we come to the biggest question of the evening (and perhaps of our times): what WAS Livia Firth storing in the bodice of that dress? We refuse to believe it’s there to serve some aesthetic purpose: it HAS to be storage of some kind. So, what’s in there? Perhaps it’s the remains of all of the irreplaceable vintage dresses she had cut up to make last year’s gown? We will never know, but we will always wonder. Well, until the next celebrity comes along, anyway…

Colin Firth, meanwhile, wore a black suit with a bow tie. GOD, but we’re glad we’re not men.

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Cameron Diaz in Gucci Première

So, this is a nice dress. Cameron Diaz looks very pretty in it. But the fact that we’re more interested in what the guy in the background is looking at, and what’s in his little green bag,  probably tells you all you really need to know, doesn’t it?

What IS in the little green bag?

This dress is VERY J-Lo.

We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether that’s a compliment or not.

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood

This isn’t the best photo, but it was one of the best looks of the night for us: Rose Byrne in a black sequinned Vivienne Westwood gown, looking simply chic. We think her sleek bob may be our favourite part of the whole look…

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Meryl Streep in Lanvin

At every Oscars ceremony, there always has to be at least one person who comes dressed as the statuette.

We guess in this case it was rather fitting that the person in question happened to Meryl Streep, who was named Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in The Iron Lady.

For the ceremony, Meryl went from Iron Lady to Gold Lady, in this shimmering gold Lanvin gown, and we give her major props for planning ahead and co-ordinating so nicely with Oscar himself. You don’t get that level of attention to detail from most celebs, do you?

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Michelle Williams may not have won the Best Actress Award for her performance in My Week With Marilyn, but she DID wear one of the most eye-catching dresses of the evening.

Which is really all that matters, isn’t it?

(We’re joking.)

(We’re not.)

Michelle’s dress is by Louis Vuitton, and the fact that it’s orange makes it, like, SO bang on trend, dahlinks. Do you like it, though? Or is it one ruffle short of a 70s bedspread?

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Couture

Emma Stone chose to come dressed as Nicole Kidman from the 2007 Oscars.

Awkward.

(Her dress is by Giambattista Valli Couture, Nicole’s was Balenciaga. We’d do a “who wore it better” thing, but obviously Nicole did.)

Fashion Police at the 2012 Oscars: Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

We wish Gwyneth Paltrow had partnered up with Angelina Jolie for the 2012 Oscars. They’d have made an excellent good twin/bad twin double act, don’t you think?

We love Gwyneth’s white Tom Ford gown. It’s what Princess Leia would wear to the Oscars, if she was invited. And anything that’s OK by Princess Leia is OK with us.
