Fashion Police at the MET Costume Institute Gala: Beyonce

beyonce met costume institute gala 2012 Fashion Police at the MET Costume Institute Gala: Beyonce

The MET’s Annual Costume Institute Gala is the fashion event of the year, as far as The Fashion Police is concerned. Forget the Oscar’s, with its safe, “let’s all dress as brides” vibe (Oh, how we long for the days of Celine Dion in a back-to-front suit, or Cher in…any of the things Cher likes to wear), the Costume Gala is where celebrities let their fashion flags fly, and don’t care whether we arrest them for it. And good for them,

This year’s theme was  ”Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”. Unless you were Beyonce. If you were Beyonce, the theme was, “Yes, I had a baby recently: SO?” And the conversation she will one day have with Blue Ivy Carter about this dress may not be an “impossible” one, but it WILL definitely be an interesting one…

What do you think of this look?

Fashion Police at the 2012 Country Music Awards

We’re not sure if the dress code said “come in white”, or whether it was just one helluva coincidence (which could explain why Taylor Swift looks so disenchanted, come to think of it: it’s one thing if one other person turns up in a similar dress, but quite another when EVERYONE does it…), but the last time we saw this many dresses in the one place, we were at a wedding show.

This time, however, we’re at the 2012 Country Music Awards, where Nicole Kidman was one of the few people to buck the “all white” trend and go with black and red instead. She’s like the one “bad guy” against a dozen “good guys”, although we’d probably reverse that, and call Nicole the good guy here: we love her L’Wren Scott ensemble.

Katy Perry’s transformation into a smurf is almost  complete. Here’s Katy and friends at last night’s Kids’ Choice Awards: but which of them are fashion criminals, and which are merely innocent bystanders?

The Cleavage Games: Jennifer Lawrence & Irina Shayk in low-cut dresses

The Hunger Games publicity tour reached New York this week and, to celebrate, both Jennifer Lawrence and Irina Shayk decided to give The Girls a bit of an airing in low-cut dresses.

These dresses have similar necklines, but are otherwise completely different. Which naturally brings us to the question: who did cleavage best? Jennifer or Irina? Place your votes in the comment box below…

Style Trial: Pixie Lott does florals

The Pirates! In an adventure with SCIENTISTS! Ah, for some reason, the name of that movie never fails to raise a smile from us. And so, too, does the sight of Pixie Lot, wearing head to toe – but not belly – florals.

This little outfit is by Dolce & Gabbana, and Pixie has cleverly avoided the “little old lady” effect that floral print can so often have by flashing the aforementioned midriff in bra top, pencil skirt and blazer. There’s even a little bit of the fashion blogger’s favourite thing – pattern mixing – in the shape of the polka dots on the sleeves. So daring!

What’s the verdict, though? Did she succeed in making floral print palatable to you, jurors, or is this outfit guilty of committing crimes of fashion?

Mad Men cast Ring the Opening Bell of the New York Stock Exchange

Oh, come on guys! You’re not working at the New York Stock Exchange, just ringing its bell – why so office-appropriate?

We think there should be a law stating that Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, Kiernan Shipka, January Jones and John Slattery have to dress like they’re from the 60s at all times. It’s too jarring to see them in these dull modern clothes. We need more coffee…

Amy Childs models her Spring/Summer 2012 fashion range

LMK 062385 Amy Childs models her Spring/Summer 2012 fashion range

For those of you just joining us from the US, or, indeed, any other part of the world that has managed to remain Childs-free, Amy Childs is a UK reality TV “star” who followed the usual career path for reality stars, and launched her own fashion line last year. She has really big… hair.

This is the second collection, which launched this week in London. It’s not exactly high fashion, and there’s nothing here that you can’t already find a version of somewhere on the  high street, but we’re just going to come out and admit that we don’t hate it. In fact, in the case of the little polka dot/stripe number, we’d even wear it.

Would you wear clothing by Amy Childs? Take a look at the gallery and tell us what you think…and if you do want to buy it, bookmark the Amy Childs website, where it’ll be available soon.
