Celebrity Style on Trial: Sarah Jessica Parker at the ShoWest Final Night Talent Awards

Sarah Jessica Parker arrives at the ShoWest Final Night Talent Awards

Poor Sarah Jessica Parker is probably going to spend the rest of her career trying to live up to the “fashionista” tag her character Carrie Bradshaw earned on Sex and the City. Perhaps that’s why she decided to wear this particular dress to the ShoWest Final Night Talent Awards in Vegas this weekend: maybe it’s an attempt to be a bit “edgy” and “creative”? Or maybe not.

What do you think, ladies and gentlemen of the Fashion Police jury? SJP stands before you, awaiting your verdict. Will you set her free, or will you send her down, to the Fashion Police jail? Tell us!

Leaning toward the more practical side of life, I can’t fathom how that dress could be at all comfortable. It certainly does present an interesting perspective on fashion, though.

Ooooh, I like it, actually. And I’m not even one of SJP’s rabid fans.

I actually think it would be great on someone much, much younger. On her, it’s a bit mutton dressed as lamb.

I agree. And I would wear it, though I would like a bit more lining to be going on underneath.

I was going to say the same. In someone 20 years younger, it would look great. She reminds me one of these mothers who dress up like their daughters, trying to look “young” and “in”

Perhaps she’s trying to kill the tag by showing how stupid something “band on trend” can look…

It’s quite nice in its unique and alternative-y kind of way. I do think it looks like something that has been coloured in badly with a black Biro pen though… I agree with the above comments with how it would look better on a younger person but to be fair to SJP, it could have looked a lot worse on her and I think she does manage to pull it off, just.

I don’t see it at all. It looks like a monster made of tulle just ripped itself out of her guts. Yuck.

    it is an interesting dress
i do agree with the mutton/lamb assessment though in the sense that it is extremely twee which ages SJP unnecessarily
she looks better when she wears interesting things that aren’t too frilly and girly…it always seems like she’s trying too hard with the twee things
(i felt that way about the chanel “tan tights” as well)

There’s still this obsession over the whole ‘shress’ thing going on in Hollywood. The dress is nice from the bust up, but otherwise it looks like a gypsy rushed to cover herself with globs of tulle. Maybe it’d look better if the slip was extended to cover her stomach as well.

And this is probably irrelevant, but does it bother anyone else that she looks so… stiff in this photo? Its like she’s never had her picture taken before…

If the lining was black, I would really like this.

if you take out the part where it looks like her bosom vomited up a pound of tulle, added black lining, and most definitely KEPT the design across the shoulders/collarbone area, this dress would be an absolute hit.
while i feel required to declare it a fashion disaster, i think it has promise…

I really liked her in this, and in the yellow Lanvin. But I agree that some of her choices aren’t so good – Carrie Bradshaw is her curse. That pink dress with snake necklace was disappointing, and the Oscars dress was hideous.

Well, it’s breaking a few rules, but I just can’t hate it for some reason. I wouldn’t wear it, but SJP, meh, I’ll let her off the hook today.
