Celebrity Style on Trial: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Preen mini dress

LFI_PALTROW002

Gwyneth Paltrow had herself a bit of a fashion renaissance last year, when she suddenly started wearing skyscraper heels and tiny little skirts. And she's still doing it. Here she is attending the Children of the City's Champions of Hope Gala this week in a Preen mini dress and… yes, a pair of high heeled boots.

This particular style of "ripped effect" bodycon dress has been popular on the red carpets of the world this year, but what do you think of Gwyneth's attempt to work it? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Tell us in the comments…

I quite like the dress actually but not on her, something just doesn’t look quite right..

She seems really uncomfortable plus I’m not keen on the dress.

I HATE this dress. Can’t imagine the blobby swirls doing anything good for anyone’s figure.
    Hideous!

It makes her look chunky. And really, if she looks chunky in that dress, everyone will. Plus, the dress is just not very attractive to begin with.

If it were in blue and green, it might look like rippling water, which would be an improvement. As it is, it looks like she couldn’t give up her favorite dress, no matter HOW full of holes it was.

I’m not 100% sure of what Bodycon is but I know that everytime it’s mentioned, it’s wincing time.

That dress makes her figure look boyish. I’m quite certain that was not what she was going for.
    ^-.-^

That pic makes me want to tell her to pull her shoulders back and stand up straight.
The slouch she’s got going is ruining her outfit – she looks slope shouldered and awkward.

    No. Simply no.
The skirt is too short (and the hem appears to be creeping upwards in the middle). Her shoes and hair look much too “well-behaved” for that dress. And I agree with pp, that she looks chunky and boyish in it. A bodycon dress that does not show off your body? Something is wrong here…

Awful. She can and does look MUCH better than this. The dress looks cheap and the booties are wrong. She seems to be wearing those booties a lot but hello…they do not go with everything!
Shame I think she usually looks good.

I always think of Gweneth with a ladylike style.
I feel like this look is a bit teen for her?
I’m not saying she looks old, just the dress isn’t quite right.

No, Gwynnie, no. Did little Apple grab the round-tipped scissors and have at your premier dress? Why didn’t you just wear the sequined slip? If the bright shiny layer was on top and the dark, matte was peaking thru the holes, this dress just MIGHT work. But this makes her look bulgey.

I like the dress but I don’t think it’s really her style. She looks sweet, and it just doesn’t go with the edgy dress. Maybe it’s the way she did her hair?
