London Fashion Week: Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Spring 2011 runway

We think of this collection as “high fashion for clowns”. Well, they have to buy clothes too, you know…

A meringe hat. Is anyone else craving sugar right about now?

M&Ms! Just what we fancied…

In other words, this is one of those collections that are notable from the “but it’s ART, dahlink” perspective… but which can also be a tiny bit tedious if you were hoping to see some actual clothes. That you might wear. (Unless, of course, you’d happily wear these, in which case, more power to you…)

And once again you imagine a model proudly announcing to everybody “Guess what: I’ve been booked for the Prada runway show!!!”, and after this hoping nobody noticed her…

The designer must be trying to catch Lady GaGa’s eye so she will buy his clothing.

She’s been designing like this since WAY before Gaga.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is a well known designer in Spain, she began in the eighties. We are quite used by now to her colourful and weird designs. Certainly, it’s not what you or I would wear in the street, but I’m pretty sure Lady Gaga would be delighted. I don’t recall any Spanish celebrity wearing any of her outits, but I do remember Agatha herself wearing one in one of the Infanta’s weddings (but it was kind of simple, striped with the colors of the Catalan flag, since the wedding was in Barcelona). Her designs for children’s clothes are more “wearable” and cute.
