Dress of the Day: 40s shift dress from River Island

40_shift_dress We don’t like everything about this dress. The belt, for instance, isn’t completely working for us, although a different colour may resolve that one – and we’d probably prefer a different colour of the dress overall, come to think of it.

What we do love, however – enough to have made it our Dress of the Day today – is that cute little turn-down collar, plus the puffed sleeves. In fact, it reminds us a little of the ASOS double collar shirt dress, which we liked enough to actually buy, and we think this dress, although relatively plain, could be stunning on, in that retro way we love so much.

If you think so too, it’s £44.99 at River Island.

The thing I love about these types of retro dresses is that they’re universally flattering and feminine. Designers in the 50s and 60s really knew how to make the female figure shine while staying classy.

So so cute… but ‘dry clean only’? Hell no!

Oh, it’s adorable! I agree about changing the belt. Still, it is really cute.

oooh this would be perfect for the vintage 40s shoes my granny gave me recently (they were hers in the 40s) I’ve been looking for something to wear them with. Have to change the belt though…
