Real Life Looks of the Week and How to Style Dresses as Skirts

In this new series, each week we’ll be combing the internet to find our favourite street style and fashion blogger outfits: the “real life” looks that inspired us the most. Here are this week’s looks!

pink coat and floral dress

Pink Romance by Style of a London Tall Girl

We love everything about this look, from the fact that it’s a spring-appropriate style which is still warm enough to wear in the still-wintry weather we’ve been getting this week, to the fact that fashion blogger Marsha has managed to wear a dress as a skirt, and we wouldn’t even have been able to tell. This dress is by ASOS, and has long since sold out, sadly, but the purple version is still available in limited sizes, and currently happens to be hanging in the Fashion Police closet. This is a fairly dressy-dress, and we weren’t expecting to have an excuse to wear it anytime soon, but we’re now inspired to try to make it work as a skirt, and as part of a more casual outfit: thanks, London Tall Girl!

Dress as Skirt

Cropped Top by Addicted to Fashion Forever

Yellow and purple aren’t two colours we’d ever have considered wearing together… until we saw this outfit from Marta at Addicted to Fashion Forever. This is another dress-as-skirt ensemble, and it’s another dress that we just-so-happen to own, so we’re taking two doses of inspiration away from this post. (This is exactly why we love reading fashion blogs: they often give us new ideas we might not have come up with on our own!)

white pencil skirt and white crop top

Obsessed by Fashion is My Cure

Our final real life look ISN’T a dress styled as a skirt, but it IS a great example of how to wear a crop top (as is the look above it, actually.) We know a lot of you fear the crop top, or feel they can only work as part of very casual looks (or on teenagers). Done right, however, and worn with something like a high-waisted pencil skirt like Bianka’s, they can be very flattering, helping to create a much more streamlined silhouette than would be possible with a longer top, which has to either be tucked in, or hang outside the waistband. This is a sophisticated take on the crop top, and the red lips are the perfect finishing touch!

Tune in next week for more real life looks we love!
