Catch of the Day | Topshop blurry check pencil skirt

The Fashion Police don’t JUST catch criminals. Sometimes our officers also manage to net some awesome fashion items while we’re out patrolling the streets of style, and in this new feature we’ll be highlighting just a few of them for you. Here’s today’s catch:

Topshop blurry check pencil skirt, £40

This blurry check pencil skirt caught the attention of our officers as soon as it arrived on the Topshop website. We were initially drawn in by the summery blue gingham check, but, having recently had the opportunity to inspect this in real life, we can confirm that the thick fabric should be warm enough to allow you to press it into service right away – albeit with a little bit of assistance from its partners in crime, tights.

This is designed to hit just above the knee, but obviously that’s going to depend on your height. This model is 5″10 (Don’t you find it helpful when brands tell you what height their models are? It helps prevent any unpleasant surprises when that skirt that was midi-length on the model turns out to be more like a maxi-length on you…), and it’s just slightly shorter than knee-length on her, so take from that what you will.

How would you wear this? And where?

Well, it has a bit of a preppy vibe, and while Topshop have piled on the trends, with a slouchy t-shirt and black moto jacket, we think it could work well in a not-too-conservative office setting. We did like the red shoes Topshop used, so we’ve stuck with that theme: of course, if your office is the type where brightly coloured footwear would be frowned upon then poor you you can easily swap them out for something more neutral.
