Emilia Wickstead ‘Paloma’ dress, $4,130
This is one of those cases where, as soon as we laid eyes on the dress in question, we knew it was going to be an expensive one. You don’t need to be a Fashion Police detective to know that, obviously: you just need to see the word “Swarovski” in the product description.
Despite that small – or rather, large – fact, we also knew as soon as we laid eyes on this dress that it would very quickly sell out. There’s always someone willing to spend a small fortune on a dress like this, and at the time of writing, two of the four available sizes are already gone. We’re guessing Net-a-Porter probably has limited stock of this – possibly even just one dress in each size -so if you love it, and you have the money to burn, you’re not going to want to hang around.
Speaking of sizing, however, one of the big drawbacks of this dress is that it’s pretty small: it only comes in UK sizes 6- 12, and according to the item description, it runs small, so you’re advised to size up. That makes it inaccessible to a very large percentage of the population, so we have to give it a big thumbs down for that.
Lest we sound too negative about this one however, let is also just note that it IS gorgeous: we love the sixties-inspired high neck, and the jacquard fabric (Yes, it’s ANOTHER jacquard dress: we can’t help it, there’s just something very luxurious about this fabric…), and we also love the pale pink colour, which adds to that swingin’ 60s feel. Just add some matching lipstick and throw your hair up into a beehvive and you have yourself a very expensive Halloween costume…
