Suspect: Dorothy Perkins check midi skirt
I really expected to love this skirt. I’m a huge fan of midi skirts, I’m enjoying the current trend for windowpane check, and I’d had a really good experience with my last Dorothy Perkins skirt purchase, so when I saw this one starting to sell out in some sizes, I decided to go for it. I figured the off-white (Yes, it’s off-white/cream, not white, as the Dorothy Perkins website has it: small point, but there IS a difference…) colour would make a nice change from all of the dull, dark shades I normally wear for winter, and that it would look good now with pumps, and then later in the season with boots.
Sadly, however, although this skirt is a little more expensive than the last one I reviewed, the quality isn’t nearly as good. This is one of those static-y polyesters, which can look and feel very cheap, and although it is lined, it’s also very thin, so while it’ll be fine for early autumn (or for next spring) I doubt it’ll be warm enough during the depths of the winter, unless its worn with a warmer slip and tights.
The fit is also a little bit off. I ordered my usual size, and while it’s not about to fall down any-time soon, I found it a little bit roomier in the waist than I would like. I have a feeling that sizing down would result in it being too snug, though, and it IS wearable as it is, so it’s not a huge deal. As for the length, it’s a “true” midi, which hits at mid-calf. Here it is on me:
For reference, I’m 5″4, and the model shown in the product shot is 5″8. I actually don’t mind this length, but would only wear it with heels, otherwise I’d feel a bit swamped by it.
Verdict: Great print, great price, not the greatest quality
