Style Trial: Flower garlands

If personal style blogs are to be believed, a lot of women spent a large part of last summer prancing around the woods with giant flower garlands on their heads.

The trouble with this, of course, is that personal style blogs possibly AREN’T a great indication of what people who AREN’T bloggers are actually wearing. We saw dozens of photos of bloggers apparently wearing this look in day-to-day life, for instance, but we’ve yet to see someone standing in line at the post office, or wandering around the supermarket looking like an extra from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This begs the question: are people actually wearing flower garlands? IS there a way to make this look work outside of a summer festival, say… or a woodland glade?

We ask this question for two reasons. The first is just plain curiosity. We think this is a really pretty, summery look, both on the models shown above, and on the various bloggers we’ve seen wearing it, but a garland is a pretty ostentatious kind of accessory, and we just don’t think it seems like the kind of thing you could wear without attracting a huge amount of negative attention. In the environs of the Fashion Police HQ, for instance (Which is,¬†admittedly, probably not representative of the style-conscious world in general), passers-by would crack up with laughter if you were to try to walk down the street with a crown of flowers on your head. At the aforementioned summer festival, however, it might look a whole lot more natural and wearable.

Oh, and the second reason we want to know what you think of flower garlands? They’re making a comeback for summer 2013, so you can expect to see a lot more of them: in magazines, and at sites like ASOS.com, at least. Do you want to see more of them in your own closet, though? Tell us…

What do you think of flower garlands? Would you wear one?
