2013 BAFTA Awards
Well, it wasn't the most exciting red carpet we've ever seen, was it? For the 2013 BAFTA Awards in London last night, most people seemed to be obeying some kind of unspoken "black or white" rule (or at least, the ones our agency decided to photograph were, anyway. Marion Cotillard, for instance, looked amazing in bright yellow, but, of course, we didn't get a photo of her...). Perhaps the monochrome trend is more powerful than we knew?
What this meant, of course, was that anyone who dared to wear a brighter colour instantly stood out from the crowd. Step forward, Jessica Chastain, in brilliant blue:
Great colour for her hair and skin tone, and kudos to all of the celebrities for braving the freezing temperatures and sleet on the red carpet. We can't really blame Jennifer Lawrence for not taking her coat off...
Helen Mirren, meanwhile, took the opportunity to have people comment on how marvellous she looks "for her age" (Patronising, much?) by dyeing her hair pink, and twirling around on the red carpet:
We've always wondered how celebrities manage to resist the impulse to twirl in some of those giant dresses, so it's nice to see someone giving in to it, and having a bit of fun, no?
Finally, an honourable mention to Sarah Jessica Parker for bucking the "long gown" dress and going with what appears to be a jumpsuit instead:
Even more of an honorable mention to SJP for managing to track down a jumpsuit (if, indeed, that's what it is) we don't actually hate. We're not saying we'd wear it to the BAFTAs, but we CAN imagine wearing it somewhere, and that's not something we're used to being able to say about jumpsuits, so at least that's something.
As for the rest of the suspects: meh. These looks aren't terrible, but we don't think they're anything to write home about, either. Take a look at the gallery, and tell us what you think...
