Style Trial: Anna Hathaway at the world premiere of Les Miserables

Anna Hathaway at the world premiere of Les Miserables

Anne Hathaway is always the epitome of understated style and elegance.

Well, almost always.

Does this outfit scream “style and elegance” to you, or is it simply saying, “Arrest me: I’m a crime of fashion!”

You decide…

    I think I’d like it better if it weren’t in fabric where the front looks like a chenille bedspread in the photographs. Maybe in a dark navy or something.

      I was thinking bedspread, too, but on closer look, maybe those plastic beaded purses from the 70s. I actually love the shape of the dress and think it is classic and elegant. Too bad about the fabric choice.

    It would look better with fitted sleeves, I think. Although those bat cape sleeves look like they could be an escape parachute.

    It’s kind of interesting, but I don’t love it. Definitely would never wear it.

    Front=bad, back=even worse

    Protip: If you have to keep your hands/arms in a particular position or your dress looks really stupid, you may want to pick a different dress.

    (The poor girl had her hands on her hips literally the entire time!)

    Looks like a dilapidated shower curtain to me, with that pattern and the one ring it hangs on. Plus, the sleeves look like they are slipped, and I just want to pul them back over her shoulders. One might say that she looks amazingly good *despite* the dress.

    Looks like a bedsheet and a napkin ring. Too bad because I think the fabric on it’s own is pretty. But this is too billowy and the neckline is all wrong.

    This is really bad. The dress looks like bubble plastic made of wool and the sleeves? Really?

    I want to like this… It’s really interesting from a design perspective, but in practice it is SO. WRONG.

    Contrary to my fellow commenters, I actually /like/ this dress….er. sort of. i love the concept, it’s different and elegant. However. The fact that it’s backless messes with the flow of the dress and the fit of those sleeves. I think if the dress had a back into which those sleeves could flow and thereby attach to, the dress would be a great success. But without it, the sleeves do indeed appear to be hanging by nothing but a ring….so….close, but no cigar
