Would you wear… your bra in public?

Bras in public

Mark couldn't believe Zoe was letting her bra straps show...

You're probably wondering who these two are. Well, they're  Mark Wright and Zoe Hardman. They're on TV in the UK. One of them is wearing her bra on the red carpet. Yes, we know it's covered by a think layer of sheer fabric, but a thin layer of sheer fabric does not a "dress" make, so we stand by our original statement: she is wearing a bra on the red carpet. And that makes us wonder: would you?

Celebrities, you see, have been doing this kind of thing fairly often recently. They think nothing of going out in public in little more than a bra and a net curtain. Sometimes it's not even a particularly nice bra.

Obviously we "don't understand fashion", so we're not down with this look at all, and will be slapping the cuffs on young Ms Hardman as soon as we're done typing this. Before we do, though, tell us: have you ever gone out in your bra? Would you? Is NOT going out with your bra showing one of those fashion "rules" that are now totally defunct and only for fuddy-duddys, i.e the type of people who go around saying, "A lady never appears in public without her panty hose!" and "OMG, WHITE! AFTER LABOR DAY!"

Still, at least we won't have to worry about visible bra straps any more, if so...

  • It looks good on “other people”. I most probably won’t go out with my bra out :P
The top matches the shoes though (in the pic)

    a) I’m VERY glad that she did wear a bra in the first place. (These are tough times if you have to be grateful for small graces like that!) There are more than enough celebrities who seem to be allergic to bras or see it as their duty to go without one.
    b) I wish she had opted for a bra that didn’t look so much like lingerie and more like a bikini top.
    c) No, I wouldn’t wear this look myself. I don’t feel comfortable in sheer clothing and I don’t see any reason why it exists.

Isn’t she wearing the bra on top of the dress?

Some 20 years ago I was once out in a dark brown velvet shorts suit with a skimpy bolero jacket, and underneath I had a white satin body, with no laces or stuff on it, but underwear. Today, though, I’d not do that any more. Sex appeal is the weapon of the underdog.

I’m surprised Mark Whatshisface didn’t offer her a jacket: “Oh, you poor dear! You forgot your shirt!”
I was always taught that under no circumstances should your bra show. Not even the straps, if you can help it. This is making my grandmothers spin in their graves, even my great granny that’s not in one (funeral’s in a couple hours.)
If it’s sheer and not pantyhose, it was verboten when I was growing up. I bought a shirt with wide, flowy, tie- dyed, sheer sleeves (partially one shouldered too!) when I was in HS and it was the end of the world.

So no, this is not acceptable as “clothing.” Try again.

  • Yeah, in my adolescent years, I did occasionally wear a sheer top over a bra or bikini top when I went clubbing. But considering all the other stuff people wore (and DIDN’T wear) to raves, I don’t think that was very shocking. I wouldn’t wear that now, and I also wouldn’t have worn anything sheer back then for any other occasion.

I wear sheer pussy-bow blouses with similar coloured bra’s underneath. I always wear it with something high waisted on the bottom, so not alot of skin’s on show, and the tops are quite so sheer as this example, but I don’t see it as a problem.

Why did she even bother wearing it…..go topless or go home!

  • I can’t say I approve of these things. I love sheer tops, as they are made of very feminine and flowy fabrics, but I don’t own a single one precisely because I am never quite sure what to wear underneath one. A bra on it’s own just looks.. inappropriate, and if I wear a tank top, well, then I have double straps showing, don’t i?
Really, what IS the proper way to wear a sheer top? if there is one, that is.

If it’s a nice bra maybe XD
Things like corsets tend to be considered underwear and now you can see them outside of the clothes all the time XD

It’s been nearly a decade since I wore the bra-under-a-sheer-top look. At the time, being youthful and naive, I thought it was daring and sexy, but in retrospect quite embarrassing, as this kind of look tends to lack finesse and instead appear as crass attention-seeking.
