At a time when only the “edgy” are deemed acceptable in the fashion world, and to be “unexpected” is, like, the most important thing EVER, Taylor Swift often finds herself facing the charge of “always looking the same”. Poor Taylor. We actually feel quite sorry for her, to be honest. Perhaps we’re really unusual in this respect, but we don’t know many people in real life who dramatically “switch up” (Oh, how we hate that expression!) their style, and wear something radically different every day – most people just work out what they like/what suits them, and then go with it – so we’re not really sure why celebrities are expected to be, well, unexpected all the time. But we digress.
This week, Taylor made a token attempt to look a little bit different at the Billboard Women in Music luncheon this week, and rather than turning up in a princessy dress and curls, she turned up in a princessy dress without curls. And with a fringe/bangs too.
Now, we think she looks fabulous here, but we really struggle to care about the whole MUST! BE! EDGY! AT! ALL! COSTS! thing, so you tell us: what do you think of Taylor’s new(ish) look? Do you love it? Hate it? Feel completely and utterly indifferent to it? Tell us in the comments…
The word “dress” in the title of this post is a little ambitious, because the actual “dress” part – i.e. the bit that isn’t see-through – wouldn’t necessarily get a pass if this was a game of “Dress or Top“.
If it’s not a dress, though, what is it? Is it a bird? Um, well, actually, now you come to mention it, it DOES have its fair share of feathers on the shoulders. Is it a plane? We doubt it. Is it…a crime of fashion? Only you can decide. Place your votes in the comments, folks: tell us if Fergie is innocent or guilty of the charge of committing crimes of fashion!
“Parker Posey” is such a fantastic name, isn’ it? Every time we hear it, we think she should get a job as Superman’s sidekick or something, because she totally has the nane for it. And she kinda has the style for it, too, because as soon as we saw this particular outfit, with its combination of red dress, red tights and red shoes, we thought it looked like some kind of superhero costume. Maybe that’s just us.
As you fashion-followers know, monoblocking has been touted as a “hot trend” this season, so it’s possible that Parker has just decided to take a leap aboard that particular bandwagon. Either that or she just REALLY wants to be labelled a “Scarlet woman”.
Anyway, what do you think? Has she pulled it off? Do you love the head-to-toe-red look? Or are you so distracted by the Vivienne Westwood toe shoes that you can’t see anything else?
Chloe Sevigny is one of those “style icons” we get don’t GET. And honestly, we probably never will.
Quick note for the Fashion Victims reading this: yes, you’re right, it IS because we’re fat! And old! And just don’t understaaaaaaand fashion! Also, we are JUST JEALOUS that we wouldn’t be able to pull off these clothes ourselves because we have NO STYLE.
Of course, we’re quite happy to admit that we wouldn’t be able to pull any of this off. Not for a second. We’re not jealous of those who can, though: we take our hats off to them, but we’re mostly grateful that they’re out there, wearing these clothes so we don’t have to. Thank you, you brave fashion adventurers.
With all of that said, we know everyone’s taste is different, and just because we’re not fans of this particular aesthetic, doesn’t mean you won’t be. So take a look at the gallery below and tell us what you think of Chloe’s latest collection for Opening Ceremony: and then click here, if you want to buy any of it…
What do you think of jelly shoes, Fashion Jurors? Because YSL think you’re going to be willing to pay $500 for them, and we need to know what you think about that.
Of course, we’ve discussed jelly shoes before, in relation to Vivienne Westwood’s ongoing collaboration with Melissa. Those shoes always tend to split opinion right down the middle. Those of you who love them REALLY love them. (We count ourselves amongst this number.) And those of you who hate them practically seethe with loathing every time they’re mentioned. They’re THAT kind of shoes.
The Lady Dragons, however, are not $500. They generally come in at around $150 – $180: still pretty expensive, sure, but not “these shoes or the rent” expensive. The shoes above, on the other hand, will set you back $495, plus shipping. And they’re made from bright yellow plastic. (Or, if you prefer, shiny black plastic. Which is a bit less dramatic, to be sure.)
What’s the point of this, you may ask? Well, jelly shoes are kind of fashionable at the moment, we guess, thanks to the whole Melissa thing. They’re suitable for those of you who don’t want to wear leather. They’re…weatherproof. We guess.
Are all of these reasons enough to make you want to drop $500 on them, though? Tell us in the comments…
Just in case you haven’t noticed yet, it’s winter here in the Northern hemisphere. So what better to wear than a snuggly, fluffy sweater? With, you know, a giant animal emblazoned across the front. What do you mean, you don’t have a giant animal on the front of your fluffy sweater? Well, allow us to fix that for you by rounding some up for you and herding them into the Fashion Police courtroom, where you can judge them to your heart’s content.
Intarsia sweaters are very much a winter staple for some people. From that first one your granny knitted you when you were a toddler, through all of the ones you got for Christmas, right up to the present day, when they’re available in every high street store, we’re willing to bet that the vast majority of you have owned at least ONE piece of knitwear with a pattern of some kind knitted into it, are we right? Would you wear one now, though? Well, there are so many of them available this month that at least SOME of you must be…
Of course, the pattern doesn’t necessarily HAVE to include an animal. Swans, cats and swallows are popular right now, but so are hearts, slogans and the classic “holiday” prints like snowmen, reindeer and Christmas trees, so really, anything goes. The ugly holiday sweater has been well and truly reborn: but what do you think of them? Will you be snuggling up in one of these this December?
