Last week we took a a look at Winter 2011′s fashion trends, courtesy of Primark’s 2011 winter collection. Today, it’s the turn of River Island, and, unsurprisingly, you’ll only have to take a quick look at our gallery to see the same kind of story, and the same kind of items, namely…
- The bright colours. Specifically yellow, red and green.
- The pussy-bows, attached to dresses and blouses. 70s secretary style is back with a vengeance!
- The 70s look in general.
- And a little bit of the 60s, too, in the form of Peter Pan collars and mini dresses.
- The jumpsuits. Oh, the jumpsuits…

We were pretty impressed with River Island’s 2011 summer collection, which managed to incorporate a lot of the season’s big trends, without too much of the usual clubwear and blinged-up denim the brand is often associated with. Of course, we’ve always had a soft spot for River Island shoes, so we’re a bit biased. What do you think of this winter collection, though? Will you be buying any of it?

I absolutely love pussybows and don’t like buying blouses without them (ever since watching Mad Men I have been convinced it is the ONLY way to wear a blouse) so I am well and truly hoping this trend filters south.
I’m disappointed! I really liked their summer collection. And those fringed cowboy boots?! Pass the eyeball bleach!
Eeurghh – it’s like Abigail’s Party meets Blake’s 7.
There are no words for how glad I am that the fashion world has decided to get nostalgic over a decade that is not the eighties.
HA! Second that.
A lot of it’s pretty cute, except for the nun-looking dress. It has NO shape. I can’t stand that! Why wear a dress if it’s not going to be shapely in any way–the model looks like a big box and if that happens with the model, I can only imagine myself.
I like the bows. And I see gold is everywhere now, so that must be the fall color this year.
I just want the shoes on the first one. You can keep the red dress with the neckbow. Not a good look for me and I won’t be joining that fun. But the shoes I’ll take and wear the heck out of ‘em!
I love this trend, but I won’t be buying any of the River Island items because I can, and have, gotten genuine 70′s vintage from thrift stores. Take up the hems a bit and pair with modern accessories and they’re right on trend.
That long sleeve maxi dress in warm hues has such a Missoni feel to it- love it! It’d be a perfect way to dress up ‘bohemian’ in the Autumn/ Winter =D
