By now we're sure you all know the colourblocking has been deemed to be THE THING for this summer. And, of course, colourblocking is far from a new thing. In the past, you might have known it as "colour clashing" or simply "throwing on lots of brightly coloured items and calling yourself a fashionista", but this season those who care deeply about being "bang on trend" areĀ revellingĀ in the opportunity to flash their fashion credentials by wearing lots of different colours, all at the same time.
So, what is colour-blocking? It's exactly what it sounds like: blocks of colour, all worn together. There are no real "rules" to this. The colours don't have to "go" with each other: in fact, if they clash, then so much the better for the "edgy" dresser. They can all exist in one item, as in the products pictured above, or you can simply create a colourblock effect by, say, wearing a bright red top with bright blue pants and green shoes - it's completely up to you.
So, what do we think of all of this, ladies and gentlemen of the Fashion Police jury? Do you give a YAY or a NAY to the colourblocking trend, or does it depend on the item, the colours or the occasion?

NAY! Colorblocking seems to be new trend every couple of years…nothing fashionista about it.
I used to do it (the whole ‘throwing on four different colours, but without thinking I was fashionable) back when everyone looked at me as if I was completely bonkers. My favourite combo was purple, pink and lime green. So I still do it. I don’t see too much colourblocking on the Belgian streets anyway (a lot in the shops, like Zara, though, so maybe Belgians just aren’t very on trend?), so I don’t feel like I’m dressed the same way as everyone. Which helps. I still get to have my own style.
Yay! Colourblocking is something fun, and perfect for summer, and although it may have been a trend previously, what trend hasn’t been repeated?
Besides, as long as colours are teamed with some neutral items, and have some sort of relationship (i.e. complimentary colours, or the CMYbutwithouttheK outfit from Zara above), then it can look bold, but pleasing to the eye.
agreeee! love the outfit on the right!!! C x
I think colour blocking can look great if done well. To me, the dress and the shoes look fine (even if I’d never wear that particular style), but the pant/shoes/neutral top combo doesn’t look good to me.
And I just realized that I recently bought a colour blocking skirt
Yay! I’ve been doing this my whole adult life, because I just love bright colors. They cheer me up.
At least for once in my life I’ll be bang on trend
YAY!! i can finally find colourful jackets and shoes!that is all i’m asking for
I like it. I like lots of bright colours squished into one outfit!
I’m all for colorful clothes. But they have to mix well with each other.
I’m usually not a fan, but I recently did an accidental colourblocking thing which I liked quite a bit.
Red shorts, white shirt, and turquoise demi-sweater. Surprisingly pretty!
Still not liking the pink/green combo though.
I love colorblocking! Bright colors are so cheerful and fun. I do think that care needs to be taken with color choice though. It doesn’t have to be matchy-matchy, but some clashes work better than others. Also, an ugly shirt is an ugly shirt, no matter what colors you wear with it.
I like colour blocking but not that dress, it’s terrible! It’s like the Middle Ages on psychedelics. I actually enjoy both those things but they make for an awful dress.
If done right, it can look great. I’m fond of lime green and magenta with some blue and yellow accessories
However, that dress, and those shoes? Ugh.
I like the styles, but the colours are a bit much for me.
I love color blocking but only when done right. It can go horribly wrong.
It’s fine, just don’t like all these tacky 80′s colors everyone’s been putting together. I mean, a lot of people actually color block all the time normally, just not with these kinds of colors. lilac, puke orange and neon yellow? ugh.
Colorblocking CAN work, but it can look awful when done wrong.
YAY!!! Colour-blocking can look VERY chic if it’s done right.
