ONEPIECE: New evidence of the Dress Like a Toddler Trend

Look at these people, readers. They're wearing a ONEPIECE. It's the hot new trend sweeping the nation. Yes, we checked our calendars too, to make sure it wasn't April the 1st already...

We don't normally reproduce press releases here, but we're going to make an exception for this one. This is what the makers of Onepiece have to say about it (our bold, for emphasis):

: Starting in 2007, three hung-over Norwegians (Thomas Adams, Henrik Nøstrud and Knut Gresvig) had the idea to sew together a hooded sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants [OMGSTUCKTOGETHERCLOTHES! -FP], connecting the two with a giant zipper to create the ORIGINAL OnePiece. An instant success amongst Norwegians, OnePiece was introduced to the British market to a massive, indescribable frenzy [And yet you just described it. Huh. - FP]- London’s Evening Standard broke the story as, “THE Winter Trend Of 2010,” The Guardian devoted a three-page cover feature on it, Sky News made it a rotating weekend feature and it became the most discussed ‘news item’ on The Daily Mail website [This isn't surprising, actually. The Daily Fail readers get excited about anything - FP.]. With various patterns/colors to choose from (including the standard Nordic snowflake-style motif), made of high-quality, fleecy cotton with a zip that starts at the crotch and goes up to the top, OnePiece is rapidly becoming the new fashion and lifestyle statement. OnePiece is the perfect chill-out, recovery wear for lazy Sundays, it can also be worn outdoors  [Only if you want us to arrest you...FP] for a quick shopping trip/running errands, as well as a suitable and comfy in-flight clothing option (airports have never looked so colorful).

This is the shape of the future, readers. People are absolutely hellbent on trying to convince each other that they're making a "style statement!" by wearing adult onesies in public. The Cult of the Casual has taken over to such an extent that the appearance of a new ADULT ONESIE on the market can spark a "frenzy". In other news: there is no God.

Oh, and did we mention they're $200?

But it made US feel like THIS:

How does it make YOU feel?

  • Grats to the guys who invented this. They probably know it’s terrible, and yet it’s making them a killing.
I sort of want one. Never for public, but when it’s -30 and I’m freezing, it’d be nice around the house.

  • I want one too. But never to go out in. Just for a lazy thing to keep me warm when dressing gowns aren’t enough.

  • fab idea- for bed! I follow a blog of someone who owns one! She’s normally v stylish-don’t think she wears it out! Ridiculously expensive!

  • I really want one really bad, but not for wearing out. if only they were less pricy

I am from Norway, and I HAVE to say – the most of us norwegians only wear Onepiece AT HOME! ;) Not in the streets or in the store. Big difference! :) (And the Onepiece is to die for… I love mine!)

  • I can’t help but disagree completely, these OnePieces are amazing and very well made. I recently wore one on the airplane during a trip and have never had such amazing sleep. It keeps you warm and tucked in and onlookers were definitely impressed asking me where I bought mine. It would be very smart if they started stocking up the airports with OnePieces, maybe people would be less cranky when they traveled! LOVE MY ONE PIECE!

As would say Barney Stinson : “Suit up !!”
I’m French and I think I’d die if I was to wear this thing. Hopefully, we don’t have such monstruosities in French stores. o_0

WOW. I think they should add a zip around the feet holes and the hand holes.
Imagine what a cosy sleeping bag it would make :)

I don’t think I’m going to see any people in Aussie land actually wearing them!

  • HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

  • Here in the U.S., we have something similar called “Forever Lazy”. It looks like it would be very, very cozy and warm. They have an…interesting commercial for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S2p7AiNX9g .

Quite frankly, I wouldn’t be caught dead in that hideous thing. Of course, since I’m from Texas, I’ll likely not ever need something like this.

  • In my opinion people can wear whatever the hell they want at home, but a few weeks ago there was a girl in my school wearing a bright pink OnePiece and she looked like a giant easterbunny. I just wanted to claw my eyes out.

So, if this is ‘in’ is it socially acceptable to wear my snuggie out in public too? Seriously, at home? Maybe. (If I’m not expecting company, repairmen, or any UPS packages.) In public, uh, no.

    They look like oversize babies

  • They are kinda cute. And they sure are cozy, and warm, too. I would buy them to wear at home in a cold rainy night.
