Fair Isle prints and knits have been huge this season, and it was only a small hop from there to a fully fledged holiday sweater, complete with snowflakes and reindeer. Well Topshop have made that leap and are offering up this reindeer sweater for your holiday wardrobes. It’s certainly not the worst example of this kind of sweater we’ve seen, but do you feel the holiday sweater has a place in the world of fashion? And would you pay £48 for a top that arguably has a limited wear period (pretty much just the month of December we’d say)?

I don’t mind these types of sweaters. To me the reindeer are not necessarily only for Christmas. I think this sweater could be worn throughout the cold months. They’re not so bad to me.

I am so glad you asked this, I was sort of waiting for someone to question this. To me, those sweaters belong exclusivley on a ski slope. They are ugly, and do not flatter pretty much anyone (I looked at those beautiful models wearing those, and they are horrid). So no way I would ever wear those.
I have never been a fan of holiday sweaters and this one isn’t changing my opinion!
I don’t know why they exist. Where I live they’re known as “Christmas jumpers” and are usually worn by men – I’ve always assumed they are only ever given as Christmas presents, and so worn when the person who made the “gift” is around – hence the association with the season.
Does anyone know of people buying this sort of thing for themselves?
