Thakoon’s Short Layered Leggings a.k.a. ‘Trousers stuck to socks’

thakoon pants with attached socks Thakoons Short Layered Leggings a.k.a. Trousers stuck to socks

We have no idea why Shopbop have chosen to describe this garment as “leggings”. There are no “leggings” in this picture, is there? Nope, this is a straightforward case of “black pants with socks sewn over the top of them.” But when have you ever pulled on a pair of black trousers- the type you’d wear to the office, say – and thought. “Gosh, I wish I could fit a pair of thigh-high socks on over the top of these! If only someone would make such a look possible!”

Our only conclusion is that Shopbop’s copywriters looked at the photos, did a double take, and then thought, “Hell, let’s just call ‘em leggings. Maybe no one will notice.”

Of course, if you HAVE secretly been hoping to introduce a trouser/sock hybrid into your life, we’re going to guess you might ALSO like the sound of leggings-stuck-to-shorts. Luckily for you, Thakoon delivers on that front, too:

Yeti Style: Roberto Cavalli wool and fur sweater

The Yeti Sweater

When Chanel sent models dressed as yetis down the runway as part of their Winter 2010 show, we thought, “Haha, very funny, Uncle Karl, but that’ll never catch on.”

Now here we are, a few short months later, showing you a cropped sweater with arms like a teddy bear’s.  (You know, for all those times when your arms are freezing, but your belly just begs to be on show?) And it’s not the first time this has happened recently, either. Just goes to show what we know, eh?

Roberto Cavalli’s cropped sweater is 100% cashmere combined with real fur, so as well as enraging Peta, it’ll probably also enrage your bank manager, given that it’ll cost you £710 / $1,132.

What do you think of it?

UGG-ly Boots: UGG Australia Leona wedge boot

UGG Australia Leona wedge boots UGG ly Boots: UGG Australia Leona wedge bootThis poor boot is having an identity crisis and doesn’t know what it wants to be.  Is it a faux-leather wedge boot?  Is it a padded snow boot?  Is it a cardi-knit UGG boot?  Clearly UGG couldn’t make up their mind and went for a bit of each all in the one boot.  Or perhaps the pages of the design brief got stuck together and this was the result.  So what do you do when a design goes so very wrong?  Bin it and start over?  No, you retail it for £200 and hope someone buys it.

Are you the person that would buy it though? If so, you can find these boots at Very.co.uk.

Well, folks, the polls are closed, the votes have been counted and verified, and we can now reveal that the Best Dressed of the Week Award, as chosen by our readers, goes to Rachel Bilson, who wore this pink dress to the Dior Spring/Summer 2011 runway show in Paris last week.

As far as your least favourite outfits of the week, it was a tie between Katie Holmes and Rihanna, although the latter’s colourblock ensemble impressed quite a few of you too.

Glossary: UK and American English fashion terminology explained

fashion terminology UK America Glossary: UK and American English fashion terminology explained

You say tomAYto, we say tomAHto… readers, let’s just call the whole thing off, OK?

OK, so maybe not. There are so many differences between UK and American English when it comes to fashion, though, that it can get mighty confusing sometimes, so we’ve rounded up some of the most commonly confused terms below, to try and shed some light on things. Of course, just to make things even MORE confusing than they already were, there are regional differences in terminology in both countries, and the word you use for a certain item can depend, not only on what part of the world you’re from, but where exactly you live, what kind of upbringing you had, and what your family and friends call it. Oh, and some terms can make their way across the Atlantic in either direction, too:  we can think of quite a few US phrases which have become reasonably common here in the UK, probably because we’re so used to hearing them on American TV shows.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, then (and we haven’t even started on the differences in terminology in other parts of the world) so feel free to drop us a comment with any words we’ve missed, and we’ll add them to the list!
