London Fashion Week: Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring 2011 runway

Vivienne Westwood showed her Spring 2011 Red Label collection at London Fashion Week this weekend, but the designer doesn’t want us to rush out and buy any new clothes just yet. “My message is choose well and buy less,” said the designer. “Don’t buy anything new for six months and recycle your clothes.” Luckily, the 6 month shopping ban will mean we’ll be able to shop again just in time to buy this collection when it hits the stores next year, but it could be a bit of a bummer for those of you hoping to buy yourself some new winter stuff. So, will you be heeding Vivienne’s advice, choosing quality over quantity, and not shopping for the next six months?

Wanted for multiple offences: Bianca Animal Jumpsuit from Boohoo

boohoo bianca animal jumpsuit Wanted for multiple offences: Bianca Animal Jumpsuit from Boohoo

Animal print? Check. Harem pants? Check. Onesie? Check. Ill-fitting across bust? Apparently check! There is little right about this jumpsuit.

But a closer look reveals that the bottom part of this little number doesn’t fall strictly within the harem pant genre. The shape is less “slouchy boho chic” and more “excess fabric creates tent-effect around hips”. The point of which we really can’t see, and assume accounts for the model’s forced-looking stance…

Just to put the final nail in the coffin, it’s a polyester-cotton blend. Which probably explains the bargain price tag. Still, at this price at least you won’t suffer buyer’s remorse, once you realise what a huge, criminal mistake the wholle look is!

Style on Trial: Woodland print maxi dress by Topshop Unique

woodland print dress Style on Trial: Woodland print maxi dress by Topshop Unique

Unless you’re a total hermit you may have noticed that those maxi dresses we’ve all been sporting this summer? Aren’t going anywhere fast this autumn. The floor-skimming look is a staple for the colder months in 2010, and the high street has some lovely floral prints on offer, ideal for layering over long-sleeved tops and under chunky cardigans.

This particular maxi dress we’re not yet sold on. We can’t put our finger on exactly what is wrong about it (perhaps too many of our officers lived through the graphic print/skin-tight turtle-neck/maxi skirt combo in the 90s to feel ready to embrace something so close in style) but it just doesn’t sit right. We’re finding it hard to imagine who exactly it would look good on, or how exactly one might style it up.

This is where you come in! How would you wear this dress? Would you layer it up to tone it down, or let it speak for itself? Would you wear it?

If so you can pick it up for £85 from Topshop.

Fashion Trends: Hats with ears and animal heads

hats with ears from river island Fashion Trends: Hats with ears and animal heads

Hats with ears are going to be a huge trend this autumn/winter.  Or so one glance at the River Island website would have you believe anyway.  Last winter they produced a similar hat with the ears embroidered on, which was known to us forever more as “The Rubin Hat” on account of its similarity to  to our Chief of Police’s dog.

This year, however, the hats have actual ears attached to them and the beanies above are just two out of no less than 8 options, ranging from dogs to rabbits to faux fur trapper hats with ears.

What do you think of this trend?  Do you want your hat to look like a bunny, or do you prefer it just to look like, well, a hat? Tell us!

(The hats with ears are available here, from £12.99.)
