Unless you’re a total hermit you may have noticed that those maxi dresses we’ve all been sporting this summer? Aren’t going anywhere fast this autumn. The floor-skimming look is a staple for the colder months in 2010, and the high street has some lovely floral prints on offer, ideal for layering over long-sleeved tops and under chunky cardigans.
This particular maxi dress we’re not yet sold on. We can’t put our finger on exactly what is wrong about it (perhaps too many of our officers lived through the graphic print/skin-tight turtle-neck/maxi skirt combo in the 90s to feel ready to embrace something so close in style) but it just doesn’t sit right. We’re finding it hard to imagine who exactly it would look good on, or how exactly one might style it up.
This is where you come in! How would you wear this dress? Would you layer it up to tone it down, or let it speak for itself? Would you wear it?
If so you can pick it up for £85 from Topshop.

OH GOOD MORE FORESTS
FANTASTIC
NOW YOU JUST NEED THE ANTLERS
It looks like something your mum would have worn in the 70s, and the real brown coudroy, yellow polyester seventies, not the funky-dress-like-a-detroit-soul-legend seventies that the fashion industry is trying to convince us we lived in.
I’m so glad you said that – I was beginning to think my memory of the 70s must have been faulty…
I like the black piping, but there’s too much of that freaky pattern. And do they check the dresses before sending them out, to make sure none of those little eyes have ended up in unfortunate places?
I HATE it. I hate polo necks and maxi dresses and I’m not a big fan of long sleeves either, so all 3 in one garment? It also reminds me of the creepy clothes and suits of armour that came to life in Bedknobs and Broomsticks… I keep expecting it to start marching of its own accord.
I went to London this summer and about 90% of people were wearing maxi’s, it actually got a bit annoying because they were just everywhere! I don’t know why, but I thought of Daisy Lowe when I saw this dress, wearing red lipstick, it just reminded me of her style.
Wow, I really like it! I might wear it with my faux-fur vest, and some platform heels. I think it would look REALLY NICE in my wardrobe right about now!!! ^_^
