Style on Trial: Alice + Olivia Francesca Feather Skirt

alice + olivia feather skirt Style on Trial: Alice + Olivia Francesca Feather Skirt

We’ve had feathers on jackets and feathers on shoes. Hell, we’ve even had feathers on sunglasses. Those pesky birds get everywhere, don’t they?

How do you feel about feathers on skirts, though, readers? In fact, let’s go one step further with this: how do you feel when the feathers ARE the skirt – or are designed to look like they are, at least? Alice + Olivia obviously love them, hence the creation of their Francesca feather skirt, which is $330 at Shopbop. We, on the other hand, can’t stop singing, “Chick-chick-chick-chick-chicken! Lay a little egg for me!” for some reason.

Where do you stand on this important issue? Do you say YAY or NAY to this skirt?

Shoe Porn: Brian Atwood ‘Donna’ black patent pumps

brian atwood donna patent pumps Shoe Porn: Brian Atwood Donna black patent pumpsBrian Atwood has provided us with Shoe Porn on a couple of occasions now. We’d call him the Shoe Porn-King, but we somehow don’t think he’d like that, so we’ll simply note that the man makes some seriously sexy shoes – these “Donna” pumps included – and leave it at that.

Oh. and we’ll also note that these look even better from the back than they do from the front:

Modelling Is Hard: The Girls of BooHoo

models in their underwear Modelling Is Hard: The Girls of BooHooMODEL A: So… I get why I’m wearing the skirt. The skirt is kinda cute, actually. But why I am I wearing my bra with it? And, you know, it’s MY bra. It’s not even, like, some kind of super-cute special bra or anything. Are they trying to say this is what you’d wear with the skirt? Or do they just want to photograph me in my underwear? Because, like, the agency totally didn’t tell me this was THAT kind of gig…

MODEL B: NO. SYMPATHY. In fact, I’ll see your “skirt and bra” combo and raise you an “out in public in just your knickers and a lace curtain”. Not so bothered about the bra now, huh?

MODEL A: Wait: are we on Wear or Die? OMG, we ARE!

MODEL C: In that case, can I choose death?

Style on Trial: 3.1 Phillip Lim sequin-embellished silk dress

Phillip Liim sequin embellished silk dress Style on Trial: 3.1 Phillip Lim sequin embellished silk dress
We fear we may be covering old ground with this post, but The Fashion Police have yet to be convinced by dresses that look suspiciously like ice skating or ballroom dancing costumes. It’s the sequins that do it – they’re so difficult to finish neatly and always make things look of questionable quality.

Having said that, we’re not especially averse to the colour purple, and with the right tights, the right heels, the right clutch… well, it could cut an impressive figure at the office party!

What do you think? Could you make this dress work for you?

Half cardigan, half fashion crime? Alexander Wang chunky asymmetric cardi

Alexander Wang chunky asymmetric cardi Half cardigan, half fashion crime? Alexander Wang chunky asymmetric cardiSo.  What we appear to have here is half a cardigan.  That is to say, a cardigan with only one sleeve on the right, and some kind of scarf or wrap on the left.  But that can’t be what it is as that would be madness, wouldn’t it?

No, we are sorry to report that this is in fact half a cardigan.  It is described as 100% cotton so those leather sleeves belong to whatever the model is wearing underneath it (presumably for warmth as that cardi isn’t going to be great at keeping out the chill with just one sleeve, is it?).  Ignoring the fact that this appears to have been styled with some kind of harem pant shorts (and that is a crime of fashion post in itself), would you wear this item?  Or should we file it away under Pointless Clothing and be done with it?

If you like it, and you have $375 to spend on half a cardigan, you can buy it here.
