Huh. We think this is possibly the first time we’ve seen Amber Rose in something that didn’t scream, “Look! Look how wacky and zany and totally out-there edgy I am!” Instead, she walked the red carpet at the 18th Annual ESPY Awards last night wearing a yellow Natalia Romano gown with flounces a-plenty. For some reason, this is giving off an 80s vibe to us, but it could be the pale pink lipstick that’s doing it, who knows.
Is this an improvement on Amber’s usual style, though, or are you disappointed to see her opt for something a little more conventional?
We’re hoping this goes without saying (although, honestly, you can never really be too sure these days), but if you ARE going to buy into the “look, I’m barely clothed!” trend, please, for the love of Gaga, wear something underneath these “dresses”? Or even over them. That might be better.
Also: don’t you love how the sleeves add an extra £85 to the price, but not much actual coverage? Awesome…
This season, J Brand would like to respectfully suggest that we all start wearing flared jeans again (these look more like boot-cuts to us, but let’s trust them to know what they’re talking about). And they’d like them to be cropped to above the ankle.
Now, we love cropped jeans. We don’t mind flares. It would stand to reason, then, that we’d be all about the wearing of cropped, flared jeans. The thing about that, though? Well, where we come from, people would call these high-waters. They’d either ask you who died, and made you want to wear your pants at half-mast, or they’d throw you a coin or two to allow you to buy yourself some new pants. That actually fit you.
In other words, we look at these and we don’t see “exciting new fashion trend”. We see “jeans that are too short”. And we don’t need to pay $180 for too-short jeans: we just need to rob a shorter person, or shop in the petite section, when we’re not actually petite.
What do you see, though, readers? Are you ready to get your cropped flare on? Get them at J Brand if you are.
Clearly not one for travelling light, here’s a quick snap Paris Hilton posted on her Twitter this week, showing her love of Louis. Good job she has a private jet to carry all that in. How the other half live!
I’m afraid so guys. That is indeed “glove” – singular, and this is indeed a single glove. Net-a-Porter helpfully advise wearing it with a blazer and jeans as an alternative to jewelery. They offer no such advice for what to do in case of being sectioned when the general public spot you wearing it…
The Fashion Police are actually seriously concerned about the potential use of this particular fashion accessory as a dangerous weapon. It is, after all, technically chain mail, and being cut from a series of tiny “Swarovski crystal and silver-plated metal discs” must be quite sharp. It would put the knuckle-duster to shame in a fist fight. And what of the wearer’s personal safety: should she accidentally skim past any delicate fabric or, heaven forbid, go to tuck a stray hair behind her ear – the horror!
For this reason we are pleased to inform you that this particular accessory is currently out of stock! Which means that an awful lot of people apparently have more money than sense when it comes to buying impractical accessories…
Should you wish though, and should you have £720 to spare, you can add it to your Net-a-Porter wishlist to be emailed when more stock becomes available.
Hello, lovely readers, it’s your Chief of Police here, or “Amber”, as I’m more commonly known.
Earlier today I wrote my 5,000th post for TheFashionPolice.net (it was about Ellen Page, of all things, just in case you’re wondering). It wasn’t the 5,000th post on the site overall – we passed that number a few weeks ago, thanks to the hard work of our fabulous freelance writers and guest bloggers – but it was a personal landmark for me, so I thought I’d just take a moment to say a quick thank you to our loyal readers for your continued support.
Four years is a long time in blog terms, and when I wrote my very first post for the site (that one, appropriately enough, was about Stop Staring, a brand I’m still obsessed with), I had no idea that I’d still be here 5,000 posts later, and that the site would have grown into what it’s become. That’s in a large part due to you, of course, so thank you, every single one of you, for being here to read and comment every day, and allow me and the rest of the writers to keep on writing about a subject we love.
As the site moves forward, I’m going to be writing a few lengthier, opinion-style posts on the subject of fashion and style: I know that’s not why a lot of you come here every day, though, so those will be found under the “opinions” tab at the top right of the page, if anyone’s interested in reading. And if you don’t want to miss a single post, you can always subscribe to our RSS feed, follow us on Twitter, or become a fan on Facebook.
Thanks again, everyone: here’s to the next 5,000 posts! Amber x
It’s been a long-ish time since we last saw Ellen on the red carpet, so here she is at the L.A. premiere of Inception, wearing a green dress by Yigal Azrouël and black peep-toe boots. It’s a look we tend to associate very much with “young Hollywood”: there’s a selection of young actresses who can always be depended on to go with the “short dress, clumpy ankle boots” look, but what do you think of it on Ellen Page?
You’ll find two more pics under the jump to help you decide.
