We think ‘Victim’ is a particularly apt brand name for this bolero, because it DOES look like it’s been the victim of some kind of vicious attack, perhaps at the dastardly hands of the Fashion Ripper, who knows? Poor thing: once upon a time, it was an entire jacket, now it’s just shoulders and sleeves and while, OK, it does have “being a bolero” as its excuse, we’re not quite buying it . (Literally, we mean. It IS £410, after all, which means we’re DEFINITELY not buying it…)
Perhaps, though, you disagree. Perhaps you feel the slightly bedraggled look of this item simply adds to its charm, and that it would be the perfect addition to your wardrobe for those days when your arms are cold but your belly is warm? Do you? If so, you can buy it from Far Fetch, for the aforementioned £410.
Sleeves continue to be treated with distrust by much of the fashion community, who just won’t rest until they’ve either cut them off entirely, ripped holes in them, or slashed them half to death. Jil Sander, however, has arrived at an uneasy compromise with the humble sleeve: they’re very much present on this boyfriend blazer, but you wouldn’t necessarily know that unless you were looking carefully, because they’re sheer. (Other than the seams, for some reason.)
What do you think of this idea, readers? Are you ready to make peace with sleeves, and allow them to exist as long as they’re barely seen? Or do you think this would be about as much use as a turtleneck sweater in Lady Gaga’s dressing room? Tell us!
Most of the time, Jason Wu gets it so right. Even the First Lady would agree, But when it goes wrong, it’s really very wrong isn’t it? Granted, these aren’t the worst dresses to be featured on Wear or Die, but we cant imagine Michelle Obama rocking either of these and being happy about it. So if you had to, would you wear this Jason Wu ostrich feather dress (a mere £3,315 for all that glue gun action) or this bright yellow number (just £1865 to look like a bumble bee):
It’s over to you! Which would you rather? Birds or bees?
Few have been bold enough to wear Alexander McQueen’s armadillo shoes (only Gaga comes to mind) and even fewer have been bold enough to imitate the unwearable style. Enter LF, Jeffrey Campbell’s accessories line. The shoe will be available in stores in July, and a portion of the proceeds will go to a charity in honor of Alexander McQueen. But where will these proceeds come from – who will buy this shoe? It appears to be even more oddly shaped than the original and made of not-so-expensive looking velvet.
This Manoush t-shirt has been reduced to just £42.91 at The Outnet. Hey, we wonder why it didn’t sell at the original price of £122.61. Oh no, wait: no we don’t. It’s because it’s the kind of tacky tourist tat you tend to find on market stalls in tourist resorts, isn’t it? Or on “hilarious” novelty aprons, designed so you can cook dinner in the guise of a hot bikini babe.
We’ve always wondered just who it is that buys that kind of thing. Now that we’ve seen the DESIGNER version – which is no better than the regular old “two for $10″ versions, we may add – we’re even more confused. Who pays £122 for something that looks like you bought it in a dollar store in Key West? Who pays even £42.91? And what will be next? Designer ‘Kiss Me Quick’ hats? Slogan t-shirts reading, “I went to The Outnet and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!”? WHAT?
We usually award our gold star to a particularly well-dressed celebrity but on this occasion we feel that a store is worthy of the award. We were looking through the Oasis website and we did not find one single thing we needed to arrest for fashion crimes. Not even in the jumpsuit section, and that is something we thought would never happen. In fact, we found things we would very much like to buy. Lots of things we would very much like to buy.
So congratulations to Oasis, and if you have more self control than we do, why not take a look at their current collection? We, meanwhile, are off to hide our credit card in the freezer in an effort to restrain ourselves from spending all our money on pretty things, such as this gorgeous kimono dress which is £85.
