The red carpet fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Met Gala evokes as much heated debate amongst the fashion crowd as many of the famous works inside have in the cultural community throughout the ages. Instead of getting all philosophical on you and asking “what is art?” we’ll just ask if this Zac Posen gown worn by model Coco Rocha qualifies. There wasn’t much color on the red carpet, so the oceanic hues and painterly print certainly draw the eye – but in a good way?
A print like this is always at risk of turning into a Monet, as defined in the movie Clueless: “Seen from far away, it’s okay; but up close, it’s a big ol’ mess.” The train may be the most controversial part of the gown – unfurled it has all the expected flowing drama (adding to the sea associations) but what do you think of it twisted artfully into this unique bustle? And is the whole effect flattering on Rocha?
