Stella McCartney’s wooden accordion clutch bag

As Net-a-Porter say, this is definitely a "statement" clutch bag. What we're wondering, however, is just what kind of statement you think it's making.

There is, of course, the "Hey, I look a bit like an accordion!" statement. There's the "Bet you're wondering how you're supposed to carry anything small in me without it falling through the gaps!" statement. (The answer to that one is that it comes with a removable pouch - take a look below the jump to see it.) And there's also the "well, I'm definitely different from all those other clutch bags you see around!" statement, and the "Wow, I'm worth £1,335!" ones.

But what is this bag saying to YOU, oh readers? Would you buy it? If you would, head over to Net-a-Porter, and have your credit card at the ready.

  • that looks quite pointless (when you put a puch in it the whole point of the bag kind of disappears) and very fragile to me..

I think my granny had a shopping bag like this.

  • I LOVE IT!! It would look awesome with my African wooden necklace and bracelet. Then throw on some cork/wood-look wedges with a bright fuchsia summer dress and hey presto!

  • I like it but I wouldn’t spend that much for it!

  • Isn’t a hamster supposed to live in something like this?

At least now I know what to do with those carved apple baskets that look so cool and are completely useless at home. Never thought to make one into a purse!

  • I love the concept, but I don’t think it was executed very well. It would be 200000 times better if it was lined with silk or something…

While, yes, it is a tad impractical, it is still utterly mental while still being aesthetically pleasing in a manner that is unintentionally steampunk-esque. Therefore, I love it.

  • I think the statement one is making when carrying this bag is “what the hell?”.

  • You can’t give Stella cred for this design.
I got two of the originals from the 1940′s and they are made out of bamboo and came from Japan.
Mine are way nicer and didn’t at all break the bank!
