OK, everyone, quieten down: the new governess is here and Miss Heigl will send you all to bed with a bowl of gruel if you don’t start behaving!
Of course, we jest: sort of. There is something about Katherine Heigl’s dress and pearls here – not to mention the severe hairdo – that makes her look like she’s just arrived at the home of her dashing new employer, the Earl of Fashionwood, a poor, penniless governess destined to work her fingers to the bone looking after the Earl’s troubled young “charges”, until one day the house is burned down by the madwoman in the attic, and the Earl’s dastardly secret is revealed. Or perhaps we’ve been reading too much historical fiction again?
On the plus side, we’re suckers for stripes, and this IS different from most of the other red carpet looks we’re used to seeing at the moment, so we’re giving Katherine the benefit of the doubt and turning the decison over to you. Do you love this look, or should we throw her into a dusty attic room, with only some stale bread for company?
Country music: ya just gotta love it, don’t you? Or, OK, maybe you don’t, but whatever you think of the music itself, we must admit, we’re much more interested in what you think of the people who make it: or rather, of what they’re wearing. Take a look at our gallery of this week’s Country Music Awards, then, and tell us: who do you think was the best dressed? And who was the worst?
We think this has to be one of the worst examples of Impostor Footwear we’ve seen this year, not just because shoes with attached socks are one of the MOST inconvenient items we can think of but because who wears chunky socks with these kind of sandals, anyway? WHO, Bruno Frisoni?
These are part of Bruno Frisoni’s Fall 2010 collection, which means we’re ALREADY starting to dread winter. Will you be sticking your socks to your shoes, readers? Or wearing chunky socks with sandals?
Bunny ears have been infiltrating the word of fashion for some time now, perhaps influenced by Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit, who knows?
This isn’t the first rabbit ear headband we’ve noticed in our policing of the web, but it IS the most expensive: it’s £255 / £392, which seems like a helluva lot for a strictly novelty item,
IS it “strictly novelty”, though? IS it Daylight Robbery? It’s up to you, but if you find in favour of the bunny, head over to Liberty where you can buy some ears of your own.
Last week, we had a look at Prada’s see-through shoes, and came to the conclusion that if we were prepared to spend that much money on footwear, we’d at least want to be able to see it on our feet.
What about see-through handbags, though? Prada didn’t stop at shoes, this season, you see: they’re currently selling this plexi tote bag for $1,295 at Saks, and although it does come with a detachable zippered pouch in which to carry any items you really don’t want to put on public display, it’s still something of a pickpocket’s dream, allowing them to see exactly what you’re carrying before they decide to mug you for it. (Although, in our case they’d probably be able to get more for the handbag than the contents!)
Of course, this isn’t exactly a new idea, and we’ve been seeing this kind of bag crop up every now and then for decades, but we must admit, it hasn’t become any more appealing to us in all that time, and the thought of paying $1,295 for an “invisible” bag seems just a little bit “Emperor’s New Clothes” to us. What about you, though? Would you buy this bag, or do you prefer to keep your belongings under wraps?
Brightly coloured jeans were very popular a few summers ago but now Miss Selfridge are offering jeans and capri length jeans in pale pastel colours – the pink and green shown here (although on our screen the green looks like a sort of dirty grey colour) and a pastel blue. We would have to see these in person to judge the colours better, but we can’t help but be reminded of jeans in these sorts of shades back in the early ‘90s.
What do you think though? Is it time to move on to a ‘90s revival after the love for all things ‘80s over the past couple of years (1990 was 20 years ago now after all)? Or are jeans this colour best left in the past? If you like them you can buy the pink for £35 here and the green for £30 here.
