The Fashion Police were on the scene Saturday when Nordstrom presented a spring shoe trend fashion show with Nine West Creative Director Fred Allard and Gossip Girl Costume Designer Eric Daman. One shoe we kept returning to was the Tangle Sandal, $89.95. This style of thicker ankle-strapped shoe can be difficult to pull off and probably isn’t best for thicker legs, but if you’ve got the gams to pull it off this style has a lot to recommend it. The flattering pink-champagne color will help keep the leg line long on many skin tones, and the mixed material embellishment is popular for spring (and so pretty!). Not the clunky loafers we used to think of when we saw Nine West, Fred Allard has created a lot of fashion-forward looks that have been used on Gossip Girl, but still sell at a reasonable price.
Q: Dear Fashion Police, Do you know where to find beautiful wedding shoes – here’s the challenge: kitten heel (how ugly are kitten heels…) and NON-Pointy… in the uk? No one sells pointy shoes apart from wedding shops.. why oh why Thank you dear FP!
A: Wow, this really is quite the challenge! Although the Fashion Powers That Be have decreed kitten heels to be “in” this season, it’s not a decision the shoe-buying public have embraced wholeheartedly, so they’re still a little thin on the ground (or low to the ground as the case may be with kitten heels) – or, at least, pretty ones are!
Wedding shops do tend to stock a lot of kitten heels due to the fact that not a lot of brides relish the thought of standing around in stilettos all day. As you rightly observe, though, most of those kitten heels DO tend to have pointy toe, and this is because closed round toes on this kind of heel can look a little clumsy, and out of balance. If you really want non-pointy kitten heels, then, our suggestion would be to go for sandals or peep toes: again, you’re going to have your work cut out for you here, but we managed to find these DaisyB shoes (above) at Faith, for just £55, and available in white or ivory. Alternatively, their ‘Dinairb’ sandals are £5 cheaper, and have a barely-there look to them with a hint of sparkle.
You didn’t specify where you’re located, so we’re not sure if these will meet your requirements, so we’re going to get our readers in on the act and see if we can drum up some more suggestions for you! Anyone spotted a cute pair of non-pointy kitten heeled wedding shoes?
[Note: This post was written before news broke that Faith has gone into administration. You can still buy the shoes featured, but you will need to visit a Faith store or concession, as the website is not currently accepting orders.]
Um, excuse us, Miss? Sorry to bother you, it’s just that you seem to have left the dust bag on your handbag by mistake. What’s that? It’s supposed to look like that? As in, it’s supposed to look like one bag inside another bag? Oh. Our mistake. Moving on…
Aside from the fact that it does look a little bit like an accident, what does everyone think of Fendi’s ‘Peekaboo’ bag? It’s $1,340, and we think it looks better when the canvas part is pulled up over the leather, although, of course, then it wouldn’t be a “Peekaboo” bag any more, would it?
You know all those times when you have the perfect pair of shoes in mind, but those shoes don’t actually seem to exist in the real world? You’ll find the right colour, but the wrong size of heel, or the right shape, but totally the wrong uppers? Sound familiar? Well, Shoes of Prey promises and end to all of those countless hours of shoe-searching, by allowing you to play shoe designer and create your own design, in the colours, fabric and style you want.
Having had a bit of a play with the site this week, we can confirm that it’s really easy to use, and there’s a wide variety of styles, colours and embellishments to choose from, plus the fact that you get to choose your own heel height and shape. Of course, as these shoes are made-to-order, you can expect to pay a little more for them than you would on the high street: flats are £115, 1½ to 3½ inch heels cost £150, and 4 4½ inch heels are £180, but if it allows you to create the shoes of your dreams, it could just be worth it.
What do you think? Would you use a service like this? Visit their website here, and don’t forget to tell us what you think!
The Pedro Garcia Satin Wedge, on sale for $187.50, is one of those shoes that gets more complicated the longer you look at it. Put it in the lineup with other standard black, chunky, strappy wedges and you might not immediately notice that it’s satin, putting it in a whole other category of possibly evening appropriate. But is a sandal so chunky actually evening appropriate?
While we can see an Alexa Chung type wearing these with socks during the day, and maybe a high schooler wearing them to homecoming with her first cocktail dress from Macy’s, we’re not sure the sophisticated fashionista would go there. So we’re asking some sophisticated fashionistas – what do you think?
Kelly Osbourne definitely wins the prize for Quirkiest Dress of the Night (and possibly Most Literal Dress of the Night, too), but she wasn’t the only celebrity to get her gladrags on for US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood Style Issue Event, so take a look at our gallery of some of the other attendees: we’ve given gold stars to the looks we loved and slapped some cuffs on the ones we loathed, so don’t forget to tell us whether you agree!
