Suspect Round Up: Floral print romper and tops from AKA New York

Floral print round up Suspect Round Up: Floral print romper and tops from AKA New YorkWe decided to line up some of the floral print suspects in AKA New York’s Spring 2010 line to see which items you think are crimes of fashion and which are wanted for your spring wardrobe. It seems like in keeping floral prints modern, everything old is new again. With loose silhouettes and casual styling these AKA New York Floral print pieces have a real 70s vibe even though the color palette and the proportion of the prints keeps them grounded in 2010.  While most of the items are best thrown in a beach bag or worn to a backyard bash, the boat-neck top might make it into the office with some tailored neutrals.

What do you think? Should we put them all away, or do you want to save something for your closet? If so, the pieces run from $148 to $318 at Shopbop.floral

Holey Clothes! Natalie Encarnita Port Hole Dress

Natalie Encarnita Port Hole Holey Clothes! Natalie Encarnita Port Hole Dress

Port Hole Dress

This is the kind of dress that looks like it would force you to always stand in exactly the same way in order to show it off to its full effect. We’re thinking an arms-by-the-sides stance would be best, if you wanted people to notice the “port hole” effect created by the holes cut into the sides and elbows: we’re also thinking you’d possibly want to hit up the gym first, to make sure your love handles are shown to their best advantage, too…

This dress is by Natalie Encarnita, and is £75 at ASOS. We actually hesitate to call this one a Crime of Fashion, purely because the Clothes With Holes movement has claimed so many victims now that our eyes have started to adjust to it and, to be honest, we’d probably be more surprised these days to come across an item of clothing that DOESN’T have a gaping hole in it somewhere.

What do you think, though? Are you so used to holey clothes you could see yourself wearing this, or do you still long for the days when your mother would have those holes stitched up in no time for you?

Jamie King at the Los Angeles premiere of Kick-Ass

LFI KICKASSLA010 Jamie King at the Los Angeles premiere of Kick Ass

We’ll say one thing: Jaime King is a brave woman for wearing this dress. It’s boxy, it has Alexis Colby style shoulder pads, and, come to think of it, it wouldn’t necessarily have looked out of place of the set of an 80s TV show, or on one of the older members of the British royal family today.

From this, you can probably tell that we’re not fans, but what about you? Is Jamie King managing to turn this 80s satin number into something contemporary and stylish? Tell us!

Nicky Hilton in leather leggings at the premiere of Kick Ass

LFI KICKASSLA006 1 Nicky Hilton in leather leggings at the premiere of Kick Ass

Nicky Hilton has always struck us as the more stylish of the Hilton sisters, although if you were feeling uncharitable, you could argue that she’s not up against much competition there.

Here she is at the Kick Ass premiere last night, wearing a fabulous pair of nude patent peep toes, leather leggings and a sparkly top. It’s not everyone who could pull off leather leggings with any kind of aplomb, but we think Nicky’s managing it, and the floaty top is a nice contrast to the rest of the outfit.

Style on Trial: Miu Miu’s sparrow-print platform pumps

These shoes divided opinions over at Shoeperwoman, with some people finding them utterly adorable, and others shuddering at the sight of the chunky platform and heels. They’re by Miu Miu, and are one of the most recognisable shoes of this season: they sold out in a day at Net-a-Porter, which gives us some idea what the shoe-buying public (or at least the part of it that can afford to drop £365 on a pair of shoes) thinks of them, but what do YOU think of them, fashion jurors? The last word in fabulous, or too chunky for words?

If it’s the former, your best bet is to keep checking back at the likes of Net-a-Porter, in the hope that more stock becomes available soon!

Primark criticised for selling padded bikinis for little girls

primark withdraws padded bi Primark criticised for selling padded bikinis for little girls

High street giant Primark have withdrawn a padded bikini top made for seven year old girls and up, after criticism from parents, child protection organisations and others, who claimed the item was “too sexy” and exploitative for young children.

Following widespread criticism, the retailer removed the bikinis from sale, and issued a statement saying: ”

“Primark has taken note of the concern this morning regarding the sale of certain bikini tops for girls, a product line that sells in relatively small quantities. The company has stopped the sale of this product line with immediate effect. Primark will donate all the profits made from this product line to a children’s charity, and apologises to customers for any offence caused.”

Some photos of the offending bikinis can be found here, and we’re curious to know what you think of this move. Were Primark right to remove these from sale? Should they even have been selling them in the first place? Or is it all just a storm in a (padded) bikini cup?

Stuck Together Clothes Crimes: Harem skirt with attached leggings

harem pants and leggings Stuck Together Clothes Crimes: Harem skirt with attached leggings

Harem pants meet leggings

It took us a few minutes to work out what we were actually looking at here: at first glance it looks like a simple harem pant crime, but look closer and you’ll see that these are no ordinary harem pants: no, these ones have leggings attached to them. Yes, leggings.

Now pants and leggings is a pretty impossible combination, which is probably why Boohoo.com describe this garment as a “harem skirt with leggings”. Fashion Police reader, Kishen, who reported this to us, said she wasn’t sure whether she loved the idea or hated it, so we leave it up to you to decide, readers. What do you think of this? If you love it, it’s £20 and you can buy it here.
