Are we the only ones who are over the punk thing now? Call us old fashioned, but when we fork out €1.249,00 for a dress we expect it to stay together of its own accord. We don’t want it held together with safety pins!
Joking aside, there are many things we like about this dress: the colour would be lovely on the right complexion, and the shift shape is an office classic. But those sparkly safety pins are just so tacky looking – they give the impression of a sort of punk Barbie hybrid! Versace are clearly revisiting their own archive with this one (remember the safety pin dress made famous by Liz Hurley in the 90s?) but is this one design that should have stayed in the archive, do you think, or is punk Barbie right up your street? If so, hop on over to mytheresa.com for a safety pin dress of your very own!
Fashionable isn’t a word usually associated with L.L. Bean, unless perhaps you’re talking about their fluke, ubiquitous Boat and Tote Bag on the must-have list of stylish ladies across America. And even then, it’s a Hamptonsy beach basic, not all that exciting. But the outdoorsy catalog company has recently made a bid for chic hearts and wallets with its L.L. Bean Signature line. And with a graphic bird print, dare we say that the Poplin Printed Skirt, $69, above is a combination of classic and trendy? We’re the Fashion Police, nothing if not daring, so we do say it! What say you?
Having had the opportunity to inspect this bag in real life, we can report that it’s actually much nicer in real life than it looks in the photo, and that it’s also available in an even nicer cream version, which doesn’t seem to be available on the Dorothy Perkins website, which is where we found this.
The pleated style makes this bag unusual, but it’s still a practical size, and the kind of style that make a great day bag. It’s £65, and you can buy it here.
These Prada sandals have been hailed as the “must-have” shoes of the summer by more than a few different fashion sites, so it looks like we’re going to have to be the ones to just come out and say it: does anyone else think these look like they’re worth a lot less than the $1,800 they’ll retail for? Like, a LOT less?
It’s that plastic velcro strap. It’s the kind of “cheap shoe” detail that no amount of dangling crystals can make up for, and to us it looks like the straps broke and the wearer had to cobble them together any way she could. It’s just not a look that makes us think, “Yes, I’d be willing to miss a mortgage payment for these!” although thankfully that won’t be an issue for most of us, as it’s rumoured that the US will only get three pairs. Yes, THREE pairs.
Will you be willing to fight over those three pairs of chandelier shoes, readers? Do tell…
Oh, and worry not: if you do love this style, Prada have some similar shoes available to buy now, such as:
Our thanks to Thee at Bow-Bitten Blasphemy for pointing us in the direction of this “spot the difference” puzzle from Forever 21 and BCBG, both of whom have created pink, ruffled dresses, with large flower corsages at the bust. Sure, there are enough differences here to keep Forever 21 out of trouble, but there are also enough similarities between the two to cause a strong sense of deja vu.
What do you think of them? Which one would you choose, assuming they’d wear either of them?
Something about the name Givenchy still rings with a degree of class. It evokes that elegant chic for which the French are so famous, that effortless simplicity of style you’d expect to see on a graceful older woman traversing Parisienne streets…
Where did it all go wrong?
We don’t know why exactly, but something about these leggings screams “pedestrian crossing” at us… while another aspect sends us reeling into the nostalgia of Magic Eye pictures (scroll the screen up and down a bit and you’ll soon see where we’re coming from on that one!). Wear them out in public and we can guarantee you’ll get plenty of attention – though we can’t guarantee you won’t be tackled to the ground and used as an emergency pavement by very small people…
What do you think? Could you make these work without sending the general public cross-eyed? If so they’re available from mytheresa.com for a mere €498,00.
