OK, everyone, quieten down: the new governess is here and Miss Heigl will send you all to bed with a bowl of gruel if you don’t start behaving!
Of course, we jest: sort of. There is something about Katherine Heigl’s dress and pearls here – not to mention the severe hairdo – that makes her look like she’s just arrived at the home of her dashing new employer, the Earl of Fashionwood, a poor, penniless governess destined to work her fingers to the bone looking after the Earl’s troubled young “charges”, until one day the house is burned down by the madwoman in the attic, and the Earl’s dastardly secret is revealed. Or perhaps we’ve been reading too much historical fiction again?
On the plus side, we’re suckers for stripes, and this IS different from most of the other red carpet looks we’re used to seeing at the moment, so we’re giving Katherine the benefit of the doubt and turning the decison over to you. Do you love this look, or should we throw her into a dusty attic room, with only some stale bread for company?

It’s the high neck. Imagine it with a v-neck and see what happens.
I agree with Bethany. With a different neckline the dress would be very cute.
I also agree on the neckline. A softer hairdo would have helped, too.
Why does she want to look so old? Is she dating a geezer or something?
I agree with everyone about the neckline – and a halter would be fab! Also if only she let her hair down with big soft curls and even keeping the pearls, she’d look so much younger and the whole outfit would have more of a 70′s feel.

I think with the length of the dress the neckline should be a Vneck.
But if you keep the curent neckline shorten the dress to knee length
I’d totally wear it, if it was shorter and maybe with a cute belt or something. The accessories just make it look all old lady and Katherine is definately not old.
The bodice looks like a man’s pyjama top without sleeves – way too dull compared to the skirt, which has a nice patio/beach party maxidress feel. Agree with everyone that a halter neck and a softer hairstyle would be best. The bodice stripes should also be diagonal, not vertical, and the pearls should be longer.
Love the Jane Eyre link. Though, admittedly, Jane would know better than to wear that hideous curtain pattern. She would wear her pale gray simple silk gown with her pearls. Yeah, i know, i AM a Jane fan
Heigl would be perfect as the mean, spoiled and beautiful lady who’s after the said earl’s money

oh no no no no no Katherine !!!! NO!

I wonder what it must have looked like on the telly – even a still is making my eyes go funny…
Change the hair, fix the look. Simple as that.
