It’s the third and final installment of our nautical-themed Style Challenge, so don’t forget to vote for your favourite outfit in the poll you’ll find at the end of this post! Look out for our grand final tomorrow, in which you can help choose the overall winner!
Our first thought upon glancing at this image was, “Wow, the only thing that would make this worse would be if it was a jumpsuit rather than a dress!”
Then we realised that it IS a jumpsuit rather than a dress. A metallic-tiered jumpsuit. A £1,875 metallic tiered jumpsuit. Suddenly we’re very afraid. It’s like a vision of what people in the 70s thought the future would look like: and they were RIGHT. The future DOES look shiny and droopy, and it DOES come with an enormous price-tag: or at least it does for those of you who’re planning to buy this. Anyone? Head over to Net-a-Porter if so.
We’d like to congratulate Marc Jacobs for finding a way to re-invent the wheel shorts.
We’d LIKE to … but that would mean ignoring MJ’s (We can call you MJ, can’t we, Marc?) flagrant disregard for the Not Broke/Don’t Fix It rule. Which we totally just made up.
For us, these also fall foul of the idea that there should be no such thing as “bloomers” in the world. “Bloomers” rhymes with “bloopers”. That’s how we’ll probably always think of these. BUT, they say a change is as good as a rest, and we know many of our readers have a lot of time for ruffles, so we’re putting these up On Trial to see what you think of them. Do you welcome this new breed of shorts, or do you prefer your crotch area NOT to look like a ruffled rectangle, as in the image on the right? Tell us! But before you do, one word of warning: if you are going to wear these, please be aware that the rear view leaves little to the imagination:
A bit of casual, Californian style from Nicole Richie and Jennifer Meyer, spotted walking in Beverly Hills yesterday before having lunch.
At first glance we feared Nicole was out without her pants on, here, but closer inspection reveals a pair of short denim sorts peeking out from underneath her tunic. Crisis averted…
In certain fashion circles, it’s almost mandatory to gush over Chloe Sevigny and her amazing fashion sense, and to declare her to be the Best Dressed at every event she attends.
We’re not part of those circles, however, which means we’re free to admit to feeling pretty underwhelmed by this outfit, although we don’t particularly dislike it either, and we guess the look was appropriate for the premiere of The Runaways, which she was attending. Definitely not the Worst Dressed we’ve seen this week, then, but probably not the best either. What do you think?
Yes, you got us: this post is basically just an excuse to show you photos of Robert Pattison. Sure, he could stand to run a comb through that that hair, but we find we don’t really care. Hmm.
Let’s talk about co-star Emilie de Ravin’s outfit, though, to at least create a tenuous link to fashion here. Now, this is hard for us, because we watched Lost last night, and now it’s hard for us to see Emilie as anyone other than Crazy Claire. Even when she’s been living rough for years, though, Claire Emilie is still always as pretty as a slightly-grubby picture, and she looks super-sweet here too. We don’t normally go for lace, but the little bolero is a nice touch, and we like the contrast between the bow on the dresses and the tougher-looking studded shoes, too. What do you think?
For the past couple of years, one-piece swimsuits have been making some real waves in the fashion world (Get it? Swimwear, making waves? Never mind…), and this has met with the full approval of The Fashion Police, especially when the one-pieces in question look as good as this striped, strapless number by Rosa Cha. True, strapless swimwear always makes us a little nervous, but this one is super-cute, and when you’re done with the beach/pool, you can throw on some shorts or a skirt and have a cute little summer outfit, too.
The downside? It’s not cheap. Get it for £255 at Net-a-Porter.
