On the one hand, we can see the practicality of such an item. How many times have you planned a great outfit, only to have to cover it up with a coat when it suddenly starts raining, after all? At least if the coat is see-through, you still get to show off your outfit, and that could be a good thing indeed.
On the other hand, there’s something just a little bit “emperor’s new clothes” about the whole idea, and that makes us think that if we did suddenly decide we were in urgent need of transparent outerwear, we probably wouldn’t want to spend a whole lot of money on solving that problem.
For that reason, we think one of these coats qualifies as Daylight Robbery. The other… well, we just wish the other didn’t have such highly visible pockets.
What do you think? Would you buy a see-through coat (or should that be a “shoat”?)? If so, which one would you buy: Dolce & Gabbana’s, or Topshop’s?
Oh, we do love Dior! How could we not, when the brand is responsible for outfits like this one, worn by Paz Vega to the couture show in Paris this week? In fact, we like it all so much, we’re awarding it a Fashion Police Gold Star!
Dita Von Teese has come under a fair bit of criticism from Fashion Police readers recently, for sticking too rigidly to her favourite retro looks, and, well, for the frankly horrifying “look what’s up my sleeves!” dress she wore to The Art of Elysium’s 3rd Annual Gala.
This leather dress and thigh-high boots combo, then, is a bit of a departure for Dita, although by keeping her hair and makeup firmly on the retro side, she’s still managed to make it look very “Dita”, we think. Is that a good thing or a bad thing, though? You decide.
Our sister site, Shoeperwoman, spotted Katy Perry wearing Dolce & Gabbana’s crystal studded pumps as she hosted the Waking Up in Vegas party at Haze Nightclub this week. Katy wore the shoes with a very shiny mini dress complete with handkerchief hem and cowl beck. Shoes aside, this reminds us of the kind of things girls used to wear to go clubbing in the 90s, but that could just be us, of course: what do you think?
Kylie Minogue always manages to look adorable, no matter what she wears. Even although we’re currently having to repress the urge to run up to her and start fiddling with the tie on her jacket to make it sit better, we still think she looks… well, adorable, really, arriving at the Dior show in Paris this week. What do you think?
We’ve always loved Valentino: the shoes, the dresses – everything really, but let’s be honest: it’s mostly about the shoes.
Lately, though, the brand has branched out a bit, into the realm of shoes that look like they could be doing with a good trim. First we had Camilla Belle’s out-of-control ruffle shoes, and now we find these court shoes, which have a large amount of lace running riot all over them.
Well, it’s certainly an interesting niche for Valentino to decide to occupy, but as these cost $6,216, we’re just not sure there’s going to be a huge amount of demand for it. What do you think?
As our mothers are always telling us, though, there really is something for everyone, and one woman’s crime of fashion is another woman’s Most Wanted. As if to prove that point, here’s Kanye West’s girlfriend, Amber Rose, wearing one of the aforementioned jackets in Paris last week. Looks like Amber missed the ‘Leggings Are Not Pants’ memo too, hmm?
Interestingly, one of our first reactions to this jacket last year was that it somehow looked like it had been Photoshopped – something we put down to way it had been photographed. Now we see it in “real life”, so to speak, though, it STILL looks Photoshopped. Just one of the many mysteries about this item, we suppose. Still, at least we can now close the case on the question “Who would WEAR this?”
