Remember when ponchos were trendy? Remember when you first saw them and you thought “I’ll never wear one of those” and then it got cold and you realised they were Quite Practical Actually and you ended up buying one just to wear around the house, and then before you knew it you were wearing it to the supermarket, and then to visit your grandma, and then to work…
Well, you looked like this. We all did.
Think about that next time you consider ugg boots / patterned leggings / harem pants / wet look.

Eek. I actually like ponchos, but only solid-fabriced ones, this looks like she got caught in a hammock.
I prefer shawls. My usual hairdo involves a hairstick, so things going over my head tend to get stuck.
Well not a poncho full of holes! Ew. Ponchos are supposed to be warm and made of wool. I prefer capes to ponchos, but that’s because my personal fashion style is more Victorian than modern.
At least I have an excuse! I was an innocent fifth-grader when I bought into THAT trend.
I’ve seen uglier ones..
Just remember, Martha Stewart made one when she was in the clink, and hasn’t been seen in one since she got out.
There are better ways to stay warm.
I got a couple when I thought they’d be practical for the commute through London where you tend to be crowded into sweaty boxes or walking around outside and need something more than a tee shirt. Didn’t turn out to be though – too many fights with my rucksack.
(For those who aren’t familiar with London rush hours – you dress for comfort, being able to walk long distances or stand for long times first, then change at the office.)
