Dress of the Year 2009: Vote for your favourite!

dress of the year 2009 Dress of the Year 2009: Vote for your favourite!

Every day (with the exception of the couple of brief hiatuses we’ve had this year), The Fashion Police bring your our Dress of the Day selection. Some dresses you’ve loved, some you’ve hated – and some you’ve wanted to see us publicly executed over. But of all these dresses, we think it’s time we picked a leader. A Queen. One dress to rule them all, if you will. And so today we ask you to place your vote and help us decide on the Dress of the Year 2009.

There was no easy way to select the dresses on the shortlist. In the end, we simply picked the dresses that seemed to get the best reaction when they were first posted, although obviously this isn’t an exact science, as not everyone comments/retweets (and a lot of comments were lost during the Black Friday crash), so we hope you’ll forgive us if your personal favourite isn’t included.

You’ll find larger pictures of all of the dresses under the jump – cast your vote in the poll below and help us decide on the Dress of the Year!

    • Yes, there is a poll directly beneath the text, which people have been voting on. I’ve tested it on a few different browsers/computers, and I can see it fine – can you tell me which browser you’re using, and what (if anything) you CAN see underneath the text, so I can try and work out what the problem is?

  1. I went with Matilda because I think it is the most universally flattering and versatile, but the Green Monroe was a very close second.

  2. I also went with the Matilda, even though I love flashy things like the sequin number and pink mesh prom dress. Unlike these flashier dresses, Matilda has great structure and will always be a classic. I also love how versatile this dress can be. It’s simple cut & color allow it to be worn casually, but can also be dolled up. I would love to own this dress!

  3. I just don’t know about the Green Monroe. The colour might have seduced me because I adore green and green dresses are so rare, but this I feel like this one looks like a green silky version of a school teacher’s dress. I voted for Red Bonita, with the sequin dress a close second. Pink prom seemed to be too nude for my liking (I’m not big on nude) and I also feel like it would be unflattering on nearly everyone’s body. The shape of the neckline is lovely but the belted waist is too high and the gathered skirt below it would just add width to the waist area.

  4. I love the color of the green Monroe, but I have to agree that the cut is very schoolteacher/60′s housewife. Not a great look for gals with wide shoulders like myself. I’m a fan of the black wiggle dress, the rose corsage dress, and the red Bonita. To me they all look seductive and classy in a pinup girl kind of way.

The silk-blend asymmetric looks like a sheet draped over a mannequin. I cannot fathom that looking at all flattering on a real woman.

  5. That was difficult! – torn between Heartbreaker Fashion and Miu Miu. Had to go for the wiggle dress in the end simply because it’s the one I could wear…
