Incoming Fashion Trend: Feather capes and collars

feathered capes Incoming Fashion Trend: Feather capes and collars

If you’re a regular reader of The Fashion Police, you probably already know that we have a bit of a “thing” about feathers. It’s not really a fashion “thing” either: it’s more of a “totally irrational phobia” thing which means that items made with feathers can be relied upon to make us run very fast in the opposite direction, yelling, “The birds! The birds!” (This nugget of information may come in handy one day if you ever invite us to a party and discover that we won’t leave.)

OK, so it’s not QUITE that bad, but it’s true that feathers are not our friends, which is a shame, really, because we’re starting to notice quite a lot of them appearing on the fashion radar, mostly in the shape of the capes above (which are from ASOS and Topshop, respectively), and we know that a lot of you love them.

What do you think of this trend? Feathered friends or Birdwoman of Alcatraz?

  1. i like it in black on the model in the photo…however i have visions of trying this or other feathered items and having my cats loose their tiny little minds and attacking me to clear me of vermin/make themselves a tasty snack

  2. I love it.

It also reminds me of a publicity shot I saw of Billie Piper in that callgirl show of hers. That alas I never got to watch because I’m on the wrong side of the pond…

  3. I don’t like this cape, and I normally don’t like feathers, but I’ve been seeing a lot of small feather fascinators lately and I admit I’m very very tempted.

  4. I’ll salute to the daringness of the idea, and I’ll have to admit, they have this strange sort of elegance in them. Which is sort of weird, since I’m usually totally against the idea of wearing some article that an animal had to actually die to give up. I think they’ll look great on some people, but others, not so much.

  5. You don’t actually think they pluck birds do you? They can actually make the “feathers” in factories, not really sure how but they do and if it is real feathers pretty sure they would use feathers off of a dead bird. Good luck trying to pluck an alive bird.
