Red Carpet Watch: Fashion Police at the 2009 Whitney Museum Gala

When we talked about animal print faux fur earlier this week, some of you were of the opinion that it really only works – if it works at all – on younger women. Whatever your postion on that, though, we’d like to suggest that pink fur, on the other hand, doesn’t really look good on women of any age.  Sorry, Lindsay.

We’d also like to suggest that when Donatella Versace could be your slightly older sister, it’s probably a good idea to tale a step away from the peroxide. And speaking of Donatella Versace:

Donatella Versace

See? She and Lindsay could be related these days. Awesome dress, though…

Taylor Momsen

Hmm. We’re starting to wonder if the dress code for this event read “pale dress split to thigh, bleached blonde hair, dark eyes, pale lips”. Taylor Momsen certainly complied, if so.

Mischa Barton

Not Mischa, though. Mischa wore blueeeeeeee veeeelvveeeet! Sorry, we couldn’t resist…

Shakira

Confession: we never actually recognise Shakira in photographs, because every time we see her, she looks like a different person to us. And so we’re convinced that there actually IS no “Shakira”, it’s just a selection of stand-ins. Too much with the conspiracy theory? Sorry. What you can take from this is that we have no real opinion on what she’s wearing. Moving on…

Genevieve Jones

Magaine writers like to refer to Genevieve Jones as “the black Paris Hilton”. This is a rubbish comparison, though, because Paris would never show up at an event wearing a low-cut boiler suit: she’d wear something MUCH worse. That doesn’t mean you’re off the hook, though, Gen: your shoes are distracting us for the moment, but we won’t forget this…

Alexa Chung

Unlike Shakira, we ALWAYS recognise Alexa Chung in photos. This is because Alexa always looks EXACTLY THE SAME, no matter where she is and what she’s doing. Alexa, we know you’re hailed as a “fashion icon” right now, but seriously: mini dress, blazer and ankle boots aren’t the answer to EVERY sartorial dilemma. Surely you must have other clothes?

Lake Bell

Is it just us, or does Lake Bell look like the bottom half of her body is on back-to-front in this photo? We’re impressed, if so.

Jennifer Hudson

After serious reflection, we conclude that Jennifer Hudson was the best dressed at the 2009 Whitney Museum Gala, and we’d like to stroke her hair.
What do you think? Who was your best dressed?
