Would you wear… a denim dress with shoulderpads?

denim shoulder dress Would you wear... a denim dress with shoulderpads?OK, hands up if you’re over the whole “massive shoulders” thing yet? We are, and it’s still only September: we expect this trend to run aaaaallll winter, so it looks like it’s going to be a long one. And a large-shouldered one at that.

This Miss Selfridge dress combines the aforementioned shoulders with… denim. This is something of an unholy alliance as far as we’re concerned, because we’ve yet to meet a denim dress we’ve really liked, but what about you, readers? Do you think denim should be reserved for jeans, and maybe the odd skirt or jacket? Or do you think it’s just fine and dandy, with the shoulderpads being the icing on the cake? If you do, this is £45 at Miss Selfridge.

  1. I’m actually fine with the concept of denim dresses. Esp. vintage denim dresses… See these pics from assorted sites…

    I actually like em all….

But the one in the post is weird… Its a sack dress + shoulder pads + crinckled fabric + nothing elegant…. A big NOOOOOO…

  2. I’ll say it every time I see any garment victemized by shoulderpads in such a horrible way:
justice must be done: the shoulderization must be put to a stop!

  3. I think I would have rejected that dress even back in the 80′s, but I’ll admit that I owned a similar denim dress back then, but it was strapless, and had a diagonal zip running up the entire front of it (and in retrospect, kinda slutty … I wonder how I got away with leaving the house in it).

Also, that’s not just any old denim. It’s acid wash or stone wash denim. Horrors.

The 80s was not a stylish decade. I fail to understand why we’re re-living it.
