Accused of: Getting just a little bit carried away with the ties, and ending up looking some weird kind of knitted bondage top. The tie around the neck is just the, er, perfect finishing touch, no?
OK, hands up if you’re over the whole “massive shoulders” thing yet? We are, and it’s still only September: we expect this trend to run aaaaallll winter, so it looks like it’s going to be a long one. And a large-shouldered one at that.
This Miss Selfridge dress combines the aforementioned shoulders with… denim. This is something of an unholy alliance as far as we’re concerned, because we’ve yet to meet a denim dress we’ve really liked, but what about you, readers? Do you think denim should be reserved for jeans, and maybe the odd skirt or jacket? Or do you think it’s just fine and dandy, with the shoulderpads being the icing on the cake? If you do, this is £45 at Miss Selfridge.
It was really only a matter of time before this happened, wasn’t it? It’s almost winter, which means we can expect to see lots of Ugg and Ugg-style boots around. And this winter is all about the thigh high, so, hey, why not make Ugg-style thigh highs?
Why not indeed. These boots are by Australia Luxe Collective, and are £280. The top section is not sheepskin, and folds down to knee-height, so you get two styles for the price of one. Whether those are two styles that you’d actually want to wear, of course, is entirely up to you.
We’ve already shown you what Lady Gaga wore to the MTV Music Video Awards last night, now here are some of the celebrities she was attempting to steal the limelight from. Remember to tell us what you thought of these outfits – who was your favourite and least favourite?
Above – Katy Perry, in a dress we could’ve sworn we’ve seen her in before…
Isn’t it amazing how £1,625 worth of dress can look so…well, cheap? All of those “bandage” bits loosely wrapped around the floral print backing, like a mummy’s bandages falling off its rotting flesh. We’re not sure the dress that lies beneath those “bandages” is any better, to be honest, but even so, our fingers are itching to go over there and start unravelling, just to see what would happen.
If, however, you love this dress just as it is, it’s by Marc Jacobs, and you can buy it here.
Well, THAT was interesting, wasn’t it? Lady Gaga covered in blood, Kanye West behaving like… yeah. We’ll have a red carpet roundup soon for you, but in the meantime here’s a quick Gaga Gallery featuring the good lady’s outfits from the evening…
“Simply slips on!” declares the product page for this hat at Browns Fashion. Well, they had to try and find some way to make it sound unique and exciting, didn’t they? Otherwise they’d have to have written, “Looks just like any other beanie, but is made by Rick Owens, so we’re going to charge you £115 for it.”
Seriously, Rick Owens is a great designer and some of his stuff really is innovative. Not this, though. This is a beanie hat. And yeah, it’s 68% baby alpaca, and we’re sure it’s lovely and soft, but we just don’t think Rick Owens had to slave for hours over the design, somehow.
What do you think, readers? Is a designer beanie worth the money, or are you happy to save your pennies on a budget version?
As we’re sure most of you know, thigh high boots are currently enjoying a turn in the fashion spotlight: they’re being touted as THE boots for this winter, but let’s face it, they’re not exactly the easiest boots to wear, and all too often, they can end up making you look like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
For this week’s Style Challenge, then, we want you to use Polyvore to create an outfit to wear with the thigh-high boots above, which are by Stella McCartney. Before you do, though, please take a moment to read the rules of the game, which you’ll find below…
