As most of our readers will have realised by now, that dastardly criminal known only as Jack the Fashion Ripper has been busy lately. REALLY busy. In fact, we've now reached a stage of critical mass with the holey clothes that have resulted from his vicious attacks, and we've had to open a whole new wing in our jail for them. (Don't worry, it's the hospital wing. We see these unfortunate items as victims, not criminals).
Of course, while we tend to view the holey clothes epidemic as a crime, we're sure some of you have other ideas: this look is so prevalent at the moment that SOME of you must be wearing it, so if you are, you'll love what we have for you under the jump…

Sometimes the holes cover the entire garment, as in the two cases above. Other times, they're more subtle, like this Marc Jacobs dress, £850.

Wherever and however they appear, though, it's clear that the holes are out there – and they're probably coming to an outfit near you soon. What do you think about this latest development in fashion, readers? Love it? Hate it? Or, as with so many trends, is it a case of "depends on the item"?

I think the leggings would look alright over a pair of tights (e.g. fishnet), and worn with boots and a skirt or dress. But not that one with the holes in – would look too coordinated and instantly become pretty sad!
I’m thinking the holy vest might be fun over a bathing suit.
That shress is piling on the crimes.
In the interests of full disclosure, when I was a teen (in the 80s), I had a cutoff top that also had cutout shoulders. That made for some intriguing tan lines.

How would you put the leggings on without sticking your foot in the wrong hole?
I think it can work, if it looks intentional and is done in small doses. That said, most of these things are fugly, but I kind of like the Marc Jacobs number.
